Rockabilly recommendations??

Lots of great suggestions so far.
Danny Gatton, Tex Rubinowitz, Link Wray, Billy Hancock, Bob E. Rock, Bobby Smith were all bands from the Washington DC area I grew up with.
The Leroi Brothers first record "Check This Action" is a must have.
Crazy Cavan N The Rhythm Rockers are very good.
Shakin Stevens, Billy Burnett, Colin Winski, Swingin' Madisons, Tailgators, The Accelerators, J P McDermott and Western Bop, Robert Gordon, Rockin' Bones, are among the more modern bands that I like. The original cats are the real masters, you can hear them on AOL radio. They have a rockabilly station that is quite good.

Deke Dickerson & the Echophonics...Great guitar player!!!!! cool cool records....Do a u tube check em out yourself........

You gotta check out The Paladins - Let's Buzz and Years Since Yesturday are great! Anybody else familiar?

the ones with stars on em, I already have some of, and have been listening to 'em this evening.

You know how it is when you buy lots of records, and do spot sorting to see if there's any tracks you recognize, and if you like the general sound of it.

I have a sorted pile of about 150 LPs that still need a cleaning, and a full listen.
Found the Screaming blue messiahs, The paladins, and eddie cochran in that pile.

So this will give me some of a rockabilly education.

:)

As MichaelJ suggested above, be sure to add The Rock And Roll Trio to your list. Their self-titled 1957 album might be the perfect thing for you.

Johnny Burnette and Dorsey Burnette were in the Rock and Roll Trio. Billy is the son of one of them, Dorsey I think. They were a smokin' band! Covers of a Train Kept a Rollin' and Rock Therapy that will knock your socks off. Don't forget to add them to your list. No Rockabilly collection is complete with out them!

A couple more suggestions.

Jeff Beck did a tribute record to Cliff Gallup and the Blue Caps, a few years ago, that's definitely worth a listen. It's called 'Crazy Legs'.

And someone I always meant to check out, but never got any of his records is Charlie Feathers. One of the founding fathers of Rockabilly, from the early Sun Records days, along with Elvis, Jerry Lee, and Johnny Cash.

For some wild ass rockabilly origination:

Sonny Burgess
Johnny Carroll

You're dead from the waist down if these guys don't move you.

Also check out:

Bigger Than Elvis
Cigar Store Indians
The Belmont Playboys

The Blasters (+1) Saw them live a couple of times when they first went national. They were the only band that could not be blown off the stage by The Joe Ely Band of that late '70s time.

Look up "Rockin'" Ronnie Wiesner and his "Rollin' Rock Record" label for background on the real "Go Cat Go!"deal. He produced the first Blasters record.

If you like Wanda Jackson you'll love Kim Lenz and The Jaguars:

Search out some early Carlene Carter ala' her first 4 or so albums. Great rockabilly with some great players on hand.

The Hillbilly Hellcats
The Spectres
Lee Rocker (Formerly of the Stray Cats...)
Three Bad Jacks
James Intveld
Wanda Jackson

If you like this stuff you may also want to check out:
Wayne Hancock
Dwight Yoakam
The BR5-49

I have CD's and LP's of nearly every group mentioned in this thread. And I've seen a lot of them perform live. Good suggestions.

I would add:

Glen Glenn
Sleepy LaBeef
Ronnie Dawson
The Ranch Girls
The Lustre Kings
The Blacktop Rockets
Rosie Flores
High Noon
Cave Catt Sammy
Levi Dexter
Ray Campi
