A good friend of mine just bought a pair, his main speakers are a set of current version Cornwalls, he is absolutely floored by how good the Spendors are, liking them more than his Thiel 1.5s he lived with for years.

Look for a set of KEF reference 101’s. They sell for around 300-500 and sound as good or better than those Rogers. Your buying the name and bbc connection @ 3k.

I'm not looking for any other speakers as I'm chock full with speakers that I love. But I've been hung up on considering some LS3's mostly because of their classic history and that there is a couple pair a few miles from where I live had me interested. But I'm not really interested in paying $3k for a pair unless somebody convinced me it was a bargain. I got a pair of similar sized Boston Acoustic CR8's a few weeks ago and some folks that I respect indicated to me that they're better sounding and more balanced then the LS3's.
 
Thanks. Yes loved the A1's although I'll probably be giving them up simply because they require placement that I simply don't have anymore. From now on the only speakers that I'll be adding to the stable will be small one's.

Sam. You should check out JR149 if you come across in CL. They are almost similar to LS3/5. I wanted to build the LS3/5 and got the drivers. Looking for crossovers now.

Honestly, I have no desire to check out any other small (or large)speakers. As I said, the CR8's are perfect for me as a representative of the small class. The idea of trying/owning LS3/5A's was more about the legacy, like AR3's for instance. If I never own them I won't lose any sleep. This thread wouldn't even exist if the pair hadn't been a few minutes from me.
 
My friend still hang on to the Rogers LS3/5a and McIntosh MC240 after 20 years. I can’t say it’s worth it not. However, with the right matching combination, it is musical and the “to die for “ mid vocal tone just like no other. I got myself a pair of the Spendor Ls3/5a 15ohm finally. Mating it with McIntosh MC225 sounded just like what I remembered. With a good placement, the Ls3/5a sounded very open and can fill the room with good imaging. Of course it is not for bass heavy electronic music.
Maybe $3k is on the high end, $2600 is on average. I understand it’s hard to justify the cost but it’s a personal choice rather than just another pair of a typical speakers

Yes I've heard that they mate up beautifully with an MC225, which I happen to own(as well as a 240 and MC30's) which is one reason why I've been curious.

Nice collection
I had MC240 but traded for Lafayette KT550 20 years ago as it sounded better. Should have kept it. Same story with Marantz 7c.
 
I will never get rid of my tube Macs(including the MX110 and C11 preamps). Nor my AR3's. As I said above it's about their legacy in addition to their excellent sonic qualities. I'm grateful to be able to own them.

The one pair being offered locally is asking $1200 and that seems about what others are selling for in other parts of the country. Less expensive but not cheap.
