Good news for Stones fans?

Even though they left the label years ago, ABKCO Records is still an important part of the Rolling Stones‘ history. And the label is joining the band’s 50th anniversary celebration by reissuing three classic Stones albums on clear 180 gram vinyl.

The reissues, which will be available on May 28, are part of the company’s new campaign, ‘The Rolling Stones Clearly Classic,’ which promises songs “meticulously mastered from high-resolution audio files sourced from the original master tapes, assuring optimal sound quality that exceeds both conventional CD audio and digital downloads,” according to a press release.

Cool stuff. Too bad the pressings are made via the analog-digital-analog method; sort of defeats the purpose of analog listening.

‘The Rolling Stones Clearly Classic,

Clear record, clearly classic... Get it ha... nice they made a pun and pun which will help them justify charging 30 bucks a pop for those records.

All in all it's great to see stuff re-issued but what I really want to see re-issued it 90's stuff. So many labels are missing out on huge chunks of money not re-issuing that that stuff.

I completely agree. Its not even the obscure stuff that is missing. I want Natalie Merchant on Vinyl, I have no options. I can get Tigerlily in a 45rpm version from MoFi but thats it, nothing else is even available.

Matchbox Twenty "Yourself or someone like you" the 1996 release is the only one available and its not common, only one on discogs and its got a $300 tag on it.

Counting Crows, the only thing I can get is a 45rpm version of "August and everything after" and a Live album. I want 33 1/3 versions of their entire catalog.

The list goes on and on and on. So many HUGE records that have either never been pressed on vinyl, or were only pressed in limited numbers back in the 90s.

That was my thought - seems kind of odd they would do it that way. Any opinions on how these records may sound?

Will have to wait for a review by one of our AK'ers; other reissues I've purchased have been either bass or treble heavy (reminiscent of a digital copy).

90's vinyl was limited for the most part as much of the decade was focused on mp3's and CD's. At some point the 90's stuff will come flooding through. Until then you can grab the uber expensive original presses or wait. Not alot of options here for that stuff.

Might have to pick them up. Hopefully, PopMarket will do a bundle on them.
(they have a nice Live Hendrix bundle today)

Agreed. Try finding a clean copy of Alice in Chains first album "Facelift" - geezis.

I'll probably pick up "Hot Rocks" out of the three. I already own the 2010 Abkco vinyl box(which is oop), as well as all the original London LPs.

Hopefully they'll release most of the catalog individually, which I assume will be the DSD sourced UK versions. Quite a bit of new/sealed 2003 DSD vinyl still floating around though!

I wonder why the compareable MP3's they have listed for the records are from 2005? Hopefully these records are not reissues from those.
