RS-2004A parts / project?

Hello,
Looking for RS2004A parts at a reasonable cost.
I have a unit that is cosmetically decent, but it has a shorted STK-0500, is missing the antenna, and a couple of equalizer knobs are not the correct ones.
I like the looks of the unit and would like to get it working but I don't want to put more money into it than it's worth. I will probably end up selling it, there's not much of a market around here and shipping to the lower 48 is cost prohibitive.
I would like to do the STK-0050 upgrade if it all works out.
I would also consider just replacing the shorted STK-0050 if I could find a functional used one.

Hey SB, did you sell that RS-2004A? Im in the same boat. About to fix and restore my friend's 2004A, so it's worth it to me.

I still have the receiver. I don't think I will get started on it any time soon, if at all, too many other irons in the fire.
I just checked the audiolab site, no STK-0050 listed.
Have you looked into building the discreet component ouputs? It sounds to me like it might be worthwhile for someone who really wants to keep their stereo and is
willing to put some time and money into it. It's designed for the Pioneer SX-780, but at least one person has put them in an RS2004A. He said he had to
enlarge the hole in the back of the receiver to make the outputs to fit. See the post by HBrown - http://audiokarma.org/forums/index....placement-for-sx-780-and-others.721181/page-8.
There are 22 pages on the thread, I read through all of it a while back. I may do the mod some day since I like the 2004A and I think it might be a fun project, but I now I will end up having at least
as much money into it as I will be able to sell it for. I would really like to find a functioning STK-0050 for a decent price, fix the unit, and sell it.

Try searching 4492 on their site . It's not original but it's better than ebay.
$75 is a little more than I want to spend, I have to rebuild the power supply first and figure out what exactly is wrong.

4492 worked. What's better about them, build quality? Are they likely to outlast the cheap ebay packs? How much experience does Larry D have with them?
It sounds like a good option if they will last a while.
Something else to consider is that I would think the power packs should match, that would mean buying two of them, so along with shipping you're into them for $30.
$75 for the mods is $45 more than the reproductions, and then the mods will probably last forever. 2 sets of the reproductions and you're close to paying for the
mods, and you've only troubleshot and repaired the unit once. Buy once / cry once is worth considering.
Did the power packs on the unit you're working on take out the power supply? I'm new to repairing stereo gear, but from my limited knowledge experience it seems to me
that when the power packs / output transistors fail they can take out things in the driver stage like emitter resistors, not the power supply, and the RS2004A's are fused.
On the unit I have it took out both fuses as well.
