Rush to tour this summer!

They're playing Bluesfest here in Ottawa in July. Woo-hoo!

I bought a festival pass for the entire twelve day affair. Besides Rush, I will be seeing Iron Maiden, Dream Theatre, Santana, Arcade Fire and Weezer, just to name a few. I'll be sure to get out for some of the "real" blues bands too.

Got my Dave Brubeck tickets today too! It was a very good day for that kind of thing.

Just a little update:

Rush (well Alex and Geddy at least) have been doing a lot of radio interviews lately (regrading their new documentary as well as new material/tour) and Alex said that "In about a month" one new song will be released to the radio!

He then says that both of the 2 new songs (that they have finished...4 other songs they have not totally finished yet afaik) will be released at the beginning of the tour (which I take it to mean the other song will then be released since the other one will have already been released of course!). He doesn't say how they will be released (just radio, internet/download, cd...).

And Geddy described the two songs/new material in an interview as:

"... It's hard, it's fresh. They're pretty hard hitting. They're pretty musically ambitious. One of the songs is longer... kind of a cross between Far Cry and Monkey Business. Another one is just the shorter kind of super energy song."

I likey that description! :D

Geddy also explained why Rush didn't perform at the Winter Olympics:

"We had an opportunity to play but there were all kinds of crazy rules going on about lip-synching and all stuff like that and that's just not our bag, man."

So, according to Geddy, they didn't perform because he wasn't going to lip sync. Pretty cool, if true; Rush once again choosing to keep their integrity over the profit (sales from albums, not to mention what'd they get paid to perform) they'd get from the media exposure (lots of people watching the Winter Olympics would have no idea who they were and some would certainly check them out, older fans who lost track of them years/decades ago might decided to check out the albums they've been missing all these years and/or see them on tour, etc.).

You can listen to these interviews here:

http://www.rushisaband.com/display.php?id=2142

They cover the topics above as well as the RnRHoF and why Rush is trying to release their new material as a whole album (even if it is also released or available song by song as well), since they've: "Always been an album band...all of our albums are conceptual...you miss something by not listening to whole albums...". (I'm paraphrasing Alex from memory there, listen to the interviews in order to attain a more accurate explanation and details).

Just thinking out loud.... for old times sake....

It would be cool if Neil did his drum solo during YYZ like a few of the older tours i've seen!!

That could very possibly happen during the playing of MP in it's entirety!

However, I kind of think they might open with Tom Sawyer and thus go right into MP at the start of the concert and as they try to put the drum solo more during the middle of concerts to give Alex and Geddy a break (and when they come back they try to play something acoustical or an intro to a song where Neil is not needed for a few minutes to give him a break), it might not work out that way.

We'll see; it's going to be hard to resist looking at the set list before I see them!

There's a new site for the Rush documentary that has a list of US cities it will be shown in starting on June 10th:

http://www.rushbeyondthelightedstagemovie.com/

No St. Louis yet. :sigh:

Little update on the new material (in case no one knew yet):

2 songs will be available for download on June 1st:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003MX4YTK/ref=dm_sp_alb?ie=UTF8&qid=1274576919&sr=1-12

I'm in a quandary now, as I do NOT want to first hear this new material in a lossy format (it's lossless or nothing for me...even with new Rush I can hear no other way...to play Rush in lossy is sacrilege to me actually lol), yet of course I'm anxious to hear it and don't want to wait to purchase the cd on the tour and/or hear it only when played live on the tour.

But they are supposedly thinking of making lossless available for download and/or the cd single version available for purchase online. So that will solve my dilemma. :thmbsp:

More info here btw:

Those ticket prices scare the heck out of me. I don't want to set in the back row. Thats probably all thats left.

They're not that bad, for the St. Louis show I got 14th row in the middle (perfect!) for $98 each, at the KC show I got general for $40 each. That's with the stupid "convenience" charge.

But looking at any other concert listed at the same St. Louis venue this summer that's what tickets go for, about $80 for seats and $30 for GA plus surcharge.

I was looking at Chicago cause i believe thats the closest and seating looked pretty taken up unless you want to pay 200 bucks for floor seats.

Maybe I'll just remember them from '74 with Aerosmith in a place that held abot 2500 and I was in the pit front row with Geddy taking our bottle of whiskey I had parked at his feet. Thing is he just finished his own and didn't bring ours back! I did forgive him very soon for it though, after the short nap from whatever that white stuff was. (Losing time inside his bass bin was not a good idea though.)

Ok, THAT'S bad lol. I don't even know if I would go then. It's not a matter of affording it so much as that is just ridiculous to pay imo.

Of course with traveling to KC and gas/food/lodging my tickets are going to be more like that for that show. But then it's not just the cost of the concert as it is getting out of town for a little road trip and such.

New album title released! Clockwork Angels. I like it! :thmbsp:

You beat me! :D

Uh, it will have to grow on me...:scratch2:

Also, why a title for an album that won't even be released until next year, that isn't even done yet?

I'm almost wondering if it's a false title, or if they are trying to get the reaction of fans to it (Alex, for one, does read fan boards) and possibly change it in the time before the album is actually released.

Time will tell...

Here's a little info: On this tour Neil mentioned in a new post on his website that Rush will be playing a song they never played before live. There is a list of these here:

http://www.2112.net/powerwindows/main/Tours.htm

(The list is on the right hand side).

What it will be I have no idea, I can only guess.

Also, Alex and Ged appeared on CBC's The Hour on the 24th. They mentioned a possible song they will be playing on the tour that hasn't been played in awhile (so possible spoiler! don't watch if you don't want a clue to any song on the set list--besides those on Moving Pictures and the two new single songs of course):

http://www.rushisaband.com/display.php?id=2164

I, for one, think it will absolutely rock if they do play this song.

Bumping this thread just to remind everyone that the Rush "Time Machine" (ugh, bad title...makes it sound like they are an old band who has not put out anything new or toured in decades which is hardly the case) tour starts tomorrow (June 29th) in Albuquerque, New Mexico!!!

GO SEE THEM!!! :D

There's some sweet venues on that list. Wonder if they'll record another concert DVD? I know I'd buy another one! They could play Tom Sawyer 12 times in a row, and I'd still buy it! :D

I think a show recorded at Red Rocks would be interesting, although imo the indoor venues sound better (wish I was seeing them indoors again; I haven't since Vapor Trails :tears:...haha, I know, I know, I'm just kidding, I'm so happy just to have them still touring and to have seen them as many times as I have!).

But if they don't record this leg they will almost certainly the next summer's tour. I haven't heard anything about recording...

Speaking of Rush merchandise...check out the stuff they'll be selling on the tour:

http://www.rushbackstage.com/rushbackstage/time-machine-2010/index.html

I like the Platinum Clock shirt (I'll probably get that one Thurs....and finally the Caravan/BU2B CD Single!) and the all-over Moving Pictures shirt. Also the Rush Pickup Magnet looks cool as does the tour book.

I'll be at the KC show on Thursday!!!!!!

I'm pretty stoked :)

I dig the Burnout Jersey - I'll be getting that for sure.

Me too! :guitar:

They're all pretty cool.

I've always like Rush's album art and have had dozens of Rush shirts over the years (from concerts as well as from rock shirt magazine orders back in the pre-internet days to now rock shirt sites like the above one). I have about 7 right now that I regularly wear (the rest are in drawers because they're too old and beat up to wear).

Wow guys, check out Neil's new Kit! This might be the coolest one he's ever had!

http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?act=ST&f=52&t=57026&st=0

The theme is a time machine of course, and it looks very retro with perhaps even tubes that light up? (for all you tube freaks! :D).

Btw, I have no idea if that thread contains spoilers or not about the tour (like the set list) for I did not scroll down to see (I don't want to be spoiled!) so beware.

Also check out the pics at Rush.com of them on stage (possible spoilers):

http://www.rush.com/roadpics/Time_Machine_on_the_Road/A_City_Near_You/A_City_Near_You.html

Look at Alex's amps! They look like retro stereo-furniture! Awesome!

Geddy's stuff...well, I don't know what's going on there but it looks cool!

Oh, and to those who say there are no female Rush fans, let alone hot ones...

Is it Thurs. yet?
