Sansui 1000A Receiver - Dim Bulb Test Burns Bright

Gents thanks!

I cleaned the face and replaced the dial fuse lamps that were out and it looks very clean.

I ran it again tonight for about an hour. Overall volume sounds even and without distortion. I'll clean the pots as I can't remember if I did so yet. There are also a couple of tiny caps running from, I believe, the volume pot that need to be replaced.

The left trans is warmer than the right but it is not hot to the touch. BTW which tube is the rectifier tube?

I also have popping when I change the selector from Aux to Tuner etc.

The tuner is not very sensitive at all (I am in a basement but other tuners work well) so it must need aligning.

No rectifier tube in the Sansui, you have diode rectifiers. They all pop when you change the selector.

Tuner needs work.

That tuner should be picking up stations on a strand of "wet spaghetti"!:thmbsp:

There are two metal tubes (called nuvistors)on top of the tuner assembly marked "6CW4" and are as round as an "M&M" candy, they pull straight out, don't twist!

Tube in the "IF" section are located between the tall metal square aluminum cans on the chassis.

Don't adjust anything without getting advice from a pro, I checked mine several years ago, and gave it a "touch up" about 6 months ago.

Mark .... "they pull straight out"?

..I'll take a look to see what you mean tomorrow.

Thanks.

1. I see the 6CW's .... what do I do with them ...just re-seat them or replace?

By the way....

2. How does one go about setting the bias on this thing?

3. Do you recommend installing new PIO caps as originally installed? How would the sound change?

I think it actually sounds a bit bright!

===================

Later post:

I actually did an A-B comparison of the 1000 with my AU-D11II amplifier (using a switch I built) and the results are mixed (with and without loudness)...I will create a new thread in the Sansui forum to describe the details.

Tuner Level Adjustment

The tuner works but the right channel out in everything but FM Stereo. Overall sounds good.

You may be able to get both channels working by adjisting the "Level Adj" pots on the back next to the speaker terminals.
