Hello all, does anyone have any experience with a 1000A? If so what kind of sonic comparison to a 9090 or other early SS Sansui gear. There is one available in my area and was going to see if the dude would trade for my 9090. Thanks

The 1000A is a Tube Receiver. Your 9090 is solid state. The 1000A will need a resto before you can use it. Expect it to cost $400-$700 depending on parts needed and rates in your area. A complete refurb on your 9090 will be cheaper. Unless you can do the work yourself, I would keep the 9090.

In your post title you called it a 1000x....that's a bottom of the line unit.
The 1000a is a top of the line unit that uses tubes.

Hey robertokray, have you a/b'd your 1000 against your 8080? I know you said its in for maintenance. but wondered if you listened to it prior to sending it away. Thanks.

I can't speak to the musical differences as both my 1000A and my 8080 were not restored at the time they were both operational. That would not be an accurate evaluation for either one.

All I can say is they both sounded nice, though they both seemed flat. Probably due to deterioration of the capacitors and other components.

Still using the 8080 with bass mid and treble all dialed to max. Like I said not a good representation of the full potential.

All that said, they will be different. One is not better. One may preferable by the individual listener. Both are top of the line in the category they were engineered for.
