Sansui 5000a CL find

Yes, I did clean that along with the spatializer pot. I Have it somewhere in the middle now and it sounds fine. Well, actually it sounds more than fine, I like this receiver alot.
 
One thing that does bother me with this 5000a is that I get a slight speaker pop when I connect speakers. Even whe unit is off, volume all the way down, and speaker switch off. Can this damage my speakers?
