Sansui 5000x static

I'm pretty sure I know what the usual suspects are here, but I figure it's better to ask than to assume, particularly with a group as knowledgeable as AK.

I've got a Sansui 5000x that's been my daily driver for years. It's always had a fair amount of static on both channels on any input. The static is pretty much independent of the volume knob, and is always noticeable. In the past few years, it's perhaps gotten slightly more noticeable.

I don't believe that the receiver has ever been recapped. I'm assuming it just needs to be recapped. There's also a fairly noticeable thud at power on, which could be related.

So I guess my question is, aside from recapping is there anything else I should be looking for as far as culprits? I noticed in a similar thread about a 5000A, there was a transistor with a particularly high failure rate. Is there anything other than the very old caps I should be looking at as culprits?

Start with the basics and clean all the pots with DeOxit. If you are not sure you can do it your local audio repair shop could get to it for much cheaper than a recap.
 
Cleaning with DeOxit is a great place to start. The DC thud will always be there, it's a cap coupled amp. New caps might help. Yes it's got a lot of bad transistors, 2SC871, 2SC458, it really should be gone through if you're using it as a daily driver.
 
I already cleaned the pots. It had been a few years, so I cleaned em again last week. It's been gone through many a time by myself and others. The slight background noise has always persisted though. It's somewhere in the neighborhood of white noise.

I'll look for those transistors in my parts list and start replacing them. I noticed some leaking caps on the diode stack and ripple filter board. I'm thinking that I'll split the recap in half, I'll start with the ps stuff (the big honking smoothing caps, diode stack, ripple filter) and I'll do the signal stuff and driver boards a little later.

I can do some transistors while I'm at it. Thanks for that tip. Any suggestions on replacement parts?

Go to the bottom of the attached file, it's got all the known bad ones on it and their replacements. I think I listed the main ones in the 5000X though.

It looks like there are some 2SC632s as well. Thanks for this documentat, I've been looking for something like this for a while, it'll be very handy.
