Hi all,
Picked up a 7000 that had been sitting for around 20 years unused. In reasonable cosmetic shape, only 1 tuner dial lamp working and 5 of 8 indicators working, dial indicator blown also. No scratches in the wood.
Decided to go through the whole unit. I'll start this with the external capacitors. Pictures of the originals and replacements attached I hope The 3 large EC"s are exact same size as originals to maintain both the look and improve performance, especially the 2 large coupling capacitors that are the heart and soul of this amplifier.

Replacement List.:

  1. C004 - original 1000uf 50V, replaced with Nichicon 1000uf 160V, LGG2C10MELA35
  2. C005 - original 3300uf 100V, replaced with Vishay 3300uf 200V, LNR2D332MSE
  3. C811/812 - original 2200uf 100V, replaced with Vishay 2200uf 220V, MAL210212222E3
  4. C006 - original 100uf 100V axial, replaced with Vishay 100uf 100V MAL202190531E3
The last 2 pictures show the addition of lugs to the new capacitors.

Next post I will cover the driver boards.

Waiting on an order of KSC1845FTA to arrive from Mouser before I do a new update. I'll be replacing the failure prone and noisy Mitsubishi transistors, 2sc871. There's tons of them in this amp, 16 just on the tone board.

Interesting. I am just starting to revive my 7000 that I bought new while in the Navy. All five fuse bulbs are out. One indicator out and the dial pointer out. Getting ready to order LED replacements. Still works and sounds great. All push button labels have disappeared. This was used as a workshop system for many years but is now in our spare bedroom.

Watching these rebuild posts carefully. Good luck to all.
