Sansui 7070 Intermittent Alien Noises

Hello,
I love this site - never buy anything without reading the opinions of member here first. Thank you.

My beloved Sansui 7070 developed some unusual noises this year:
- Alien-like electronic sound
- Intermittent - every few
- Very quiet (have to listen for it or be in a quiet room)
- Not effected by volume (does not get louder when the volume is up or quieter when down)

Otherwise, the receiver is in great shape. Pots are quiet, sounds fantastic, and in nice physical shape.

Any idea what this could be? Worth addressing (no emotional attachment to this particular receiver)?

Any help would be appreciated!

Never thought of that as an issue. Would the TT effect all inputs or just when I'm on the phono? Should have statues that the noise comes through all inputs.

I have a thorens TD166mkii

I have my cable modem close to my TU 217 tuner and can sometimes hear funny things when the music is very low. Turn off the modem and the problem is gone.

I've heard this can also be cause by wireless utility meters.

The sound is a bit like what I imagine a ham radio to make with it picks up a weak blip of signal. The tone is never constant (in and out, louder and softer) and lasts a few seconds.

The modem is directly next to the receiver! I never thought of that as an issue. When I get home, I will move and test.

Thanks again.

You guys are incredible. IT WAS THE ROUTER. I got a new higher powered router and it was causing interference.

Extremely thankful for the help here.
