Sansui 771 Right Channel Static Popping

Hello everybody i recently got my Sansui 771 Receiver back from a 'vintage audio repair' shop. i had originally brought it there because of my right channel having a static popping after it had warmed up a couple minutes. Well i got it back and he had said that he had it all recapped and i was super happy to bring it home. I get it back and now 3 days later of pure jamming time the issue had started again. Along with that i had also lost all FM Stereo. Please help!

Agreed. Poping can be a cause of noisy preamp transistors. Which is why allot of rebuild/repair guys make a habbit of replacing them with modern, often superior performers.

I suspect that might be your issue considering the temp related behavior. But who knows...

Hopefully your tech is a standup guy and knows his stuff.

Another fellow was looking for a 771 here recently. Sansui has a strong following. As a kid I grew up spinning LPs through my dads 2000x. The who and Tull never sounded so good

you think it may have something to do with the Power Supply as well? because when i turned it on today the static/popping noise was there right as i turned on the Stereo. i've invested so much money into this thing and i just want it to work!

Honestly its anyones guess. Without putting something on a test bench your simply speculating.

Heck resistors can be noisy the way you describe. Cold solder joints... the list goes on...

generally 'popping' is indicative of a cap. Static is usually a transistor. We don't know what's been done aside from caps. Sansui's are noted for bad or cold solder joints in many models. If it was working for number of hours and repeating again on the same channel, that to the tech shop should be a good clue.

btw.. did they show you all the old caps they took out?

it would mainly static with it popping. i looked at most of the solder joints and didnt see any cracks.. there is a residue i did find on some trimming inside of the receiver.. not sure what they would be.. this tech guy from Antioch Illinois did say he recapped the stereo. he said he had it playing for over 20+ hours before he had called and told me it was done. when i came into the store it was playing and it did sound good! i brought it home and was playing it for a good 3 days before the same problems started happening again when i turned it on the next day. only it had another problem added to it. Lost all FM reception as well. guage wont even move from 0

no he didnt show me any of the old caps.

Can you describe the difference of popping vs static. I have an 8080db that just started making cracking noises (guessing static) recently in the right channel. I bought it early last July and cleaned all of the controls. It started this about few weeks ago so I thought maybe dirty controls even though it didn't sound like any dirty controls that I'd heard before. I didn't have time to clean them so I just cycled all of the controls about 50 times each and the cracking quit for a couple weeks. It's back now worse than ever.

Sounds like a similar problem to what Sansui 771 has.
