The same fertile antenna and base was used on the 7070, 8080 and 9090 (including DB variants). Was also used on most mid to large model tuners and receivers produced between about 1975-79 including QRX-8001 and 9001, TU-417 to 919, TU-5900 to 9900 and probably others I've not personally seen closely enough to note the AM antenna style. Should be easily found as there were many models that use it, increasing the likelihood of finding a unit being parted.

Regularly check ebay as well, there are a few guys that part out units, I have got quite a lot of stuff off one guy, Joes old Audio I think it is...
You'd be surprised what you can get.

no luck with the ebayers kinda hate ebay
Something will turn up at some point, there aren't many other places that you can buy bits of parts units, I usually look every couple of weeks or so, its a patience game unfortunately.
You could try Bartertown too, but I've never had much luck there...

Agreed with above. Not to take anything away from bartertown here, but Ebay (as much as I dislike the place for a multitude of reasons) has quite often paid off for me in finding parts I needed to restore or complete a partial unit. Thing is, you have to stay on top of it and be checking daily, as it's easy to miss out.

Yes, sometimes there is a wait - even a substantial one - but if you are diligent and ready to pull the trigger when the part needed comes up, it has been the best single resource I've found. It isn't as good in quantity and selection as it was a few years ago now, but still has more available in one place than anywhere else I've run across.

i tried the 8080 today , it basically played like the volume was at 3/4 volume very very loud .volume was down all the way i only did that for a split second . i also noticed that the power meters were peaking at 80 watts , any thoughts on this guy ?

Where was the volume control actually set? If it was set low and still played that loud, then it's likely a problem with the volume/balance pot (both functions are integral to the same pot). Also check the pre out/main in jumpers to.be sure they are in the correct position. Have had a fee amps where they were not installed in the correct jacks and had all manner of strange behavior.

I've also had a volume pot go bad where one gang would work fine and the other would never go to minimum gain, so one channel always had sound irrespective of whether it was set a zero. Ended up having to replace that one as it was physically damaged inside.

Best to search and read previous threads here concerning proper cleaning and lubricating of pots like this, there is a technique to doing it properly, and only certain products should be used or damage to the pot is likely.

Occurred to me that a variable line level source (digital media player or smart phone as a media player with it's volume set high) connected to the main ins and bypassing the 8080 preamp and volume control could also an issue. Maybe not likely, but figured I'd suggest it as a possibility

Thats what I was thinking too, but the good Doctor also has a good point.

was in AUX cd player... volume was completely down, didn't check the jumpers but they looked like they were in the proper place, will check that and maybe retest if there wrong.
preout 2 too main in

just a question as i don't think i did this but , if i did plug the cd player into pre out 1 , would that do this ????? as it's next to AUX

Nothing, because if you can plug into Pre-out, then that means there is no jumper between pre out, and main in, so you'd have no sound at all.
Never good shoving signal the wrong way up a pre-amp though, but not likely to damage anything.

I think you have a earthing issue with the volume control as the Doctor has pointed out, it makes the most sense given this extra bit of information.

Yeah, I think that'd do it. Make sure you go cd to aux and test again with a cd that starts quiet so you can turn it off quickly enough if that turns out to not be the problem.

crappy pic but look and see
phono 1, 2. aux, then pre out 1 then pin is in pre out 2 goes to main in seems there 2 pre outs on this one
