Sansui 9090(DB) and 8080(DB)

It’s a nightmare at the moment.

I don’t think the continuous power will go up by much, burst or dynamic power might be another matter but I need to work out a test protocol for measuring burst power using the equipment I have on hand.

im thinking of recording some burst tones on my computer and playing them through the amp, with a scope set to single shot acquisition.

I can gradually turn it up and look for clipping in the trace.

it’s not the most precise and I’m trying to look up how burst testing is done in industry but haven’t found anything on the web yet.
 
A quick note to say that with the new, larger capacitors installed the amp clips at about the same point ~145w that it did before.

I haven’t had much of chance to look into burst power testing yet, will try and see if I can do anything in that regard.

After I rebuilt my 9090, I measured about 140WRMS on one channel, 145WRMS on the other, into an 8 Ohm non-inductive load, at the onset of clipping, also.
Sansui was known for conservative power ratings.
