Sansui 9090 - FM light stays on all the time

Hello!
I have a Sansui 9090, the issue is that the FM light stays on no matter what source is selected. I've tried cleaning the selector switch with contact cleaner to no avail.
Short of removing the switch and cleaning it, is there anything else I should be looking at?

I don't think the switch has anything to do with your issue.
 
IC AH1196 [IC04] on F2549 AM/FM tuner board controls the stereo lamp. Check components feeding it. The IC may be shorted/bad.
 
There are two FM related lamps: FM AUTO and DOLBY FM. If either of them are always lit they are shorted to the AC voltage. Refer to the schematic (board F-2541 and F-1470).
 
I misread the OP. My response was to the "STEREO" indicator when FM mode was selected. If the issue is the indicator [lamp] for which mode is selected then as PE9ZZ described would be the the area to investigate. Unless F-1470 has been mis-wired then F-2541/SW01 could be the root of the problem. SW01 is the larger of the two switches in the pix below. It is also identified on the PCB. This switch is approaching unobtainium status and cleaning with chemicals [Deoxit, etc] may work. If the short is internal to the switch then the issue becomes more complex. I would first look for a solder bridge on each board first and then do the cleaning routine. This is a simple electrical issue and should be relatively easy to trace to the fault.

Thank you! I have to take a closer look at board where the indicator lamps are wired. I got this from a friend to fix and someone was in it before So there’s good chance something is wired wrong. But now I have another issue… I get little to no sound from the volume control after cleaning it. There was so much static before that it would temporarily trip the protection circuit. This thing is driving me nuts!
