Sansui 9090DB on its way

Ok, just bought my pieces. I got a Sansui 9090DB off of eBay which should be here this week. I was nervous buying it because it needs a little work according to the eBay description.

I'm goin to take it to Just Audio in Baltimore. Has anyone gone to this place? Any other options to fix it in Baltimore?

I have the Wharfedale Dentons and think I should be ok on the 6ohm speakers having enough power from the Sansui. Only reason I mention it is that the Sansui says to only hook up an 8 ohm load.

Any suggestions or help is appreciated on this set up and what I should do before I get everything hooked up. Thanks!

Your going to have some top $$ into that but if it's choice after the work? Enjoy knowing what you have.
 
I think he means that 9090DB is going to sound great after it's redone. I have a 8080DB that's bone stock and I love it. One day I'l find someone to go thru it... Enjoy your Sansui! :)
 
Cool. I just got it today. Man, this thing is heavy! I'm not even going to plug it in, going to drop it off at the shop on Friday. I haven't even hooked the Wharfedale's up yet to my current receiver. I think I want to do it all at once.

The most nerve racking thing is not knowing what's wrong with it or how much it will cost. I took a bit of a chance bidding on it, but the outside of it is in excellent condition. So, at least it looks nice sitting on the floor!
 
Followed the eBay link and noticed you paid strongly but a nice 9090db is a very worthy piece that has provided a lot of enjoyment for me. I have 3 (One standard 9090 and 2 9090db's.) and sending one of the 9090db's off to a cousin once serviced....he's pumped!

Once serviced? These things are wonderful and their looks are so "standout" from everything else vintage. (A major thing those cosmetics too....congrats!)
 
Yes, I did pay quite a bit for a non function unit. That's why I'm nervous about this purchase, I have no idea how much it will cost to get up and running.

I am really.looking forward to the Sansui and Wharfedale combination though. Based on everything I've read it seems like they will be a nice fit for each other. Warm and vintage sounding.

It's a buy sell trade forum here and for 25.00 you will have a yr access to it. FYI a 9090 is on there in working shape for less than your pp and most of us pack bombproof. There is a great parts and media section as well. Cheers.

I'm in the same boat you are, the beauty of it is I don't care how long it may be down an out for repairs the remains that we own one! And nobody can't take that away from us!:banana: I'll be. Getting my resto thread together here sometime soon too , so I'm keeping a close eye on your updates because I'm definetly gonna need the help.
 
Some news over the weekend. I sent a message to the seller saying that there were several scratches and marks on the unit that weren't represente din the pictures. Working on refunding some of the total. Nice seller. Hoping the refund I get covers the repairs and I'll be into a 9090db at a somewhat reasonable cost.
 
Finally got an update on the repairs. New lamps, touching up solder joints on the power supply and amp section. I think that is what she said because I kinda blacked out when she told me the price for everything was going to be $300. I'm in this thing for a grand now...it better sound good!!
