Sansui AU-517 - Red Flashing Light

My AU 517 was working like charm and in the middle of playing my vinyl, I heard 2 click click sorta noise and all of a sudden there were NO sound coming from my speakers. I turned off/unplugged the unit and restarted, and the power light keeps on blinking away and of course no sound comes out of my speakers.

Any of you experienced such with Sansui AU 517? If so, would you be kind enough to tell me how to fix it? Let me also admit, I am not good w/ soldering or such... help please.

Thanks in advance.

The flashing light means it has gone into protection. It does that so it doesn't self-destruct. Check all of your connections and make sure there are no shorts. Disconnect your turntable and see what happens.

I'm new to this situation and not exactly sure what to do. The unit is connected to a surge protector and i've unplugged it and plugged it back in. Do u recommend that I unplugg every single device and then plug it back in?

I'm the wrong one to ask. If there's nothing obvious, it needs to go to a repair tech.

There are many things that could cause this problem, the smart money would be on faulty 'fuse resistors' two of which are located in each of the power amp modules. But this is a unit that suffers badly from the 'Sansui Glue' problem as already mentioned, - so it needs a through 'going over' to ensure future reliable service.

Rob: If your prediction is right, what would you say the cost of repairing those? Can u give me a general ideal so that I know i'm not being jammed by some repair guy. Thanks mate.

Need to know about where you are to give a realistic answer.

If I am correct just repairing those failed resistors might cure the problem for a while, but the bigger problem is the 'Sansui Glue', which deteriorates with age and goes corrosive, and also conductive. So, not only eating through component leads (corrosive) but also shorting them out (conductive). If left in there the 'Glue' will seriously damage the AU-517 and cause it to fail.

As I said, because of the above the amplifier needs a thorough going through by someone who knows what he/she is doing.
