Sansui AU-819

Cool...rarely seen, but not sure if it bests the AU-717? The AU-717 has dual power transformers and seems to be of better build. So, not sure what advantages the AU-819 would have besides being rare?

The AU-819 vs. AU-717:

90watts vs. 85watts
10hz-20khz vs. 20hz-20khz
THD= .008% vs. .025%
Damping Factor: 100 vs. 60
Signal to Noise Ratio: 90Db (MM) vs 78Db (MM)

The AU-819 also has an extra Phono Input. It has Moving Magnet and Moving Cartridge.

I remember when a 919 was going for not much more than that. I guess the rareness might make it worth it to a sansui collector to complete his collection . Otherwise it seems high to me:idea:

I did a quick check comparing the specs between the 919 and 819, everything looks the same except it's 100 watts per channel instead of 90.

The 819 is a double mono amplifier, the two transformers are just in the same housing. You can check the scematics for this. The 919 is dual mono as well, this one even has an additional transformer for the pre-amp. It’s from the same era als the 717, so build quality is the same for them. It’s hardly comparable to a D9 as the D9 is from a later era, with lesser build quality but more modern design circuit wise.
Sound wise I feel my 819 performs slightly better on the highs, but it’s no match for the 919’s bass. For me both have the 717 beat from to to bottom, but I sold that one a long time ago so I could remember the 717 wrong.

Also sorry for reviving this old thread if that’s a thing here
