Sansui AU-919 Needs Love.

Found a small problem I hadn't noticed earlier, the speaker selector switch has also had a solid impact on it. not really apparent in the photo below but the switch has been pushed into the chassis a bit. The result is that the switch is both not mounted securely and the nut has been pressed into the chassis enough that it will not turn, I don't want to force it too much so will have to try to straighten the chassis a little before removing the nut.

Haven't had much time the last few days so progress is slow. Did however straighten out the panel around the speaker selector switch, it is now straight and the selector switch is firmly attached and appears to not be damaged.

I have done the nut and bolt modification on F-2845 allowing easier removal. while I was at it I measured the big oval filter capacitors. I think they are in pretty good shape.

C-705 HFE 15140 uf
ESR 0.06

C-703 HFE 14789 uf
ESR 0.09

C-704 HFE 15000 uf
ESR 0.01

C=705 HFE 14750uf
ESR 0.00

So I have these looking like they are working great and I think no need to touch them for now. Also I have the set that I stuffed with shiny new caps.
 
Ok I have an issue now that I missed on my last power up as I only turned it on watched the dim bulb and waited for the relay to click, and click it did.
Now I have finished remounting the speaker selector switch and the modification on F-2845 I put speakers on it and I get a loud hum from the left speaker nothing from the right. It does this also without any source connected and there is no effect from moving the pre-main switch.

I didn't notice this on the last power up as the front panel was off and therefore the led's were not connected, bulb goes dim then brightens slightly, relay clicks but the power led keeps flashing, hum from right speaker.

MC Head Amp Board, the Protection Board, Pre-Main Switch Board, the equalizer amp board and nut/bolt conversion on the power supply board, many possibilities This could be fun.......

Firstly I'm going to check all plug in connections, go around and check that screws are tight and closely look at all the wires I removed and replaced and ensure they are all in their relevant positions.

I need to verify that I have all the wires on F-2835 in the correct positions, although I took at least 10 snaps from different angles somehow I don't have one that clearly shows all of the wires. Maybe someone has one from their restoration? I took a couple just now that show how the board is currently wired, I'm really hopping that I misplaced one as it would then be an easy fix.

Thanks for looking, and yes Sui-Yogi did the job right......... unlike me.
Easy to miss getting a few good shots of those cables, looked through quite a few on google and posts here and did't find what I needed. I had even labeled the cables before disconnecting.
Luckily someone always has your back here on AK.

Or in other words my soldering iron is on the fritz, will pick up a replacement in the next couple of days.

I was wondering About my F-2835 board with the broken selector switch, In the case that I eventually may use it in the 919 (at least temporarily) am I correct in thinking that a couple of jumpers may be used to hardwire the AUX inputs so the amplifier could have at least limited functionality?

If this may work any pointers as to where to place the jumper wires?

Between work and good weather my 919 hasn't had much attention. Today I spent a few hours going over the areas I have worked on and cannot find any obvious problems, looking for cold joints and incorrectly installed capacitors among other things has turned up nothing so far.
Just looking for that one stupid mistake........................

Quick update. There is nothing to update!

Life got busy in a good way, weather, health and work have aligned and time indoors has been limited.
Now we are unexpectedly moving house so my 919 is once again getting boxed up and it will have to wait a few months before I get my grubby hands on her insides again.

Looking forward continuing this prolonged journey soon.................
