Hey, I grew up in Woodlawn (Bronx) . Some time later, lived in Selden, worked in Islip
.
Is that what was always refered to as H_____ kitchen (back in the 70's 80's)?
I would image to a new comer it could have seemed quite overwhelming.

The idea of it needing Daredevil to keep the streets safe is laughable. In fact most of the NYC of lore is no more, except for The BronxThanks Pete. I found myself cracking up by your comment and the Truck Jacking. LOL. All in good fun.Guys, get a room. You are taking this tread way off topic.
Not a bit. I have friends and family back there that I can visit if I need a dose of "season." Besides, we have seasons here, Rainy, Dry, Fire and Mudslide.
When attending SUNY Farmingdale, I was living in Brooklyn and drove my trusty Dodge Dart Wagon 45 miles each way. I made it to class on days that people that lived on campus didn't.
It doesn't take long to get use to 85 degrees and sunny. The Washington Post named Long Beach CA as the city with the most "Nice Days."
"Today The Washington Post gave a warm shout out to Long Beach by naming it the city with the most nice days per year in America.
With 210 nice days per year, Long Beach topped Southern California neighbors Los Angeles and San Diego with—and this is no surprise—Anchorage, Alaska, coming in dead last with only 20 nice days per year.
The Post used criteria assuming people prefer days with “moderately warm temperatures, at least partial sunshine, a light breeze, low humidity and no precipitation.”
I have to agree with their criteria.

Nah - Hell's Kitchen of the 80s and earlier was a super sketchy neighbourhood on the West Side of Manhattan, midtown-ish. Today Hell's Kitchen is full of $3 million 1 bedroom condosThe idea of it needing Daredevil to keep the streets safe is laughable. In fact most of the NYC of lore is no more, except for The Bronx
I lived in Queens and knew just about all of that plus was very familiar with Brooklyn (old Brooklyn, not the Disney-fied Brooklyn of today) and Manhattan. But the Bronx for the most part was the undiscovered country. I mean I had been there as I had some really REALLY old relatives who lived in Co-Op City but that didn't count. I had no real experience with 'Da Bronx' until I had to take the D train or the #4 train on a daily basis.
I have many a memory of DaBronx and Jerome ave and King Majesty Records from the mid 80's!!
So you know why I chose to make that long trek from Queens. I can't believe I used to be smart! I was up there back in the mid 80s as well
Wait...King Majesty Records? Why does that name ring a bell?
They are still around. Been there for ever. Back in the 80's it was a one stop shop.
