You know, you can stretch heatshrink quite a bit, and still have it work. Try putting a couple dowels or rods of some kind and pull them apart inside of the shrink tube.

I'm not quite sure what kind of shrink wrap you guys have in mind. I've been snooping around and found some that is used for batteries. The stuff I found is really cheap for a 1' (30.5 cm) length.
