Sansui relay replacement reccomendations - reed relay

I need to replace the reed relay to a circa 1980 Sansui amplifier. (A nearly finished AU-X1 which I've written about before)

The part was made by Hitachi and is marked L24.
It's part of the headphone circuit.

Other than the fact that it is obviously a 24v reed relay, I cannot find any info about it. (i.e. contact form, resistance)

Headphones not working? That's what that relay controls. I don't think the one you have a photo of will be a suitable sub. You need two normally open contacts.
 
Yeah...I didn't think it would work. It cost the equivalent of $1.25... so no biggie.

If all else fails Yahoo Auctions Japan should come through for me eventually.

Though, I'd much rather find a new substitute rather than wait for old stock to appear.

Speaker output is working fine on all channels.

Mr. Kale seems to know the proper replacement, but he has been though to find / contact lately.

In this picture above (posted by Kale), he has replaced the old green Hitachi reed relay the yellow and blue component on the right.
(Man I wish I could read what was written on that thing.)

I just decided to throw this Q to the crowd to see who might have the answer.

Any 2 pole 24 volt reed relay will do, contact resistance is not the issue, it would be coil resistance, but if you already know it is a 24 volt coil, no problem. As mentioned above, it should be N.O. So there is a chance you may have some unused leads- just keep them insulated.
 
Headphones not working? That's what that relay controls.
If it isn't broken, don't fix it.. That relay would not see much significant current when using headphones.
 
The yellow and blue is a US Relays Series 20. Digikey used to carry them, and I used them on the Kenwood 700C (and once in a Pioneer SX-1250 tuner).

Sucks to have to pull out the power protection board again after installing it all nice and neat.

Ah...Seems I spoke too soon after all.

Seems Struthers-Dunn are strictly industrial sales.

Yet, I now have the PDF for the part as they make it.
All those technical details will make my search much more likely to find a good replacement. (US Relays Series 20 most likely / hopefully)
That's a big plus.

Send them an e-mail - they may send you some 'samples' if you ask them nicely ;)

I suppose I will drop a friendly email to the manufacturer and to a few of the distributors listed on the Struthers-Dunn website.

Might get lucky.

At any rate I'm way ahead from where I started.

Try a Coto technology 7102-24-1100. I just replaced a similar relay in an SE-8 graphic equalizer, except it was a 12 volt, and the new one fit a little bit better than a US relays you pictured. The one I took out of the SE-8 was labeled L23 where yours is labeled L24. The 12 volt I used was a 7102-12-1100. I got it from Digikey.

I was actually hoping one of those would work. They are cheap and easily obtained.

Anything I should know about placement? I'm guessing that at least one lead went unused in your repairs Mr. rhomanski.
 
The 7102-12-1100 has six leads just like the one Sansui used. In the same pattern, and the stance was only about a millimeter too short. Easy to push the pins out a tiny bit and fit into the circuit board. When installed all the way the pins stick through with a good bit to solder to. It is almost a perfect fit. I would expect the 7102-24-1100 should be exactly the same with only the coil voltage being different. Hope it helps.
