Sansui solid state 7000 repair, recap, and restore

The 7000 also has a switch in the back, reducing the output by 25% or 30%. It that typical for all Sansui receivers of that era? Or just the 7000?

The QS-800A also has the power limiter button but it is right on the front panel. None of the other Sansuis that I have crossed paths with have had that feature. I'll bet there are others though.

Just noticed that mine is set to Power Limited, which is more than 50% less than "peak" power.. I thought it was just an anemic 70W/CH !!

What do you all use to clean off the general dirt that develops on top of the PCBs and metal surfaces in side the top of these old girls?

I use a paint brush and a can of compressed air. Lightly brush back n forth and use the air to blow it out of there.

Yeah, had already done that, but there is more grime than that. I was thinking more along the lines of when I pull the boards out to recap, what can be used to “wash” them? Just water &paintbrush and blow dry with compresed air? I’ve done that in the past, but was wondering if there is a better way. When all the boards & large caps are out, then there is more room, but I am more concerned with protecting the FM ganged cap & semi sealed sections.

The PCB side you can use acetone. Works well, then give as general isopropyl rinse. On the component side I use just the iso and a bit of elbow grease. I have also bought what I call large q-tips?? They can get around the tight areas and mop it up!!

Was there ever any resolution on the temperature coupled TR804? And what did you use to clean that back panel! It looks brand new!! Mine needs serious cosmetic cleaning...

No final resolution yet. The other AK'ers pointed out my oversight and I plan to attach the TO-126 device to the heatsink so the thermal-coupled-operation will still occur, I just haven't gotten to it yet.

As far as the back panel goes, both the 7000's im working on are in pristine shape. I haven't had to do any external cleaning.

Amazing they are that old and that clean. Not normally what I come across..but then, mine was given to me for free...

So basically, just extend the leads with insulation, like the originals, and thermally couple the body to the heat sink on TR804.

Also, sorry to be a bother, but I've seen references to a capacitor BOM for this, but haven't actually found it. I found your transistor one. Does it exist somewhere that I can't find? I'm putting together my Digikey & Mouser orders. Thanks!!

Yep, that's the plan.

Sure. I have the complete BOM that I built for my orders in Excel. Give me a little time and I'll tranform it into a copy-n-paste BOM ready for Mouser.

The below is the BOM for all the electrolytic caps, trimpots, diodes, and transistors that I used to make my Mouser orders are below. Don't expect them to be perfect as I haven't finished and double-checked the list.

Ok, How does one replace the indicator bulbs? The dial fuse bulbs and pointer bulb are o vious and well documented but the FM-AM-Phono bulbs look they should just pull strait out from where the wires can be seen on the inside. Mine don’t budge! Is there a trick to it? The rest of. my restore is going nicely.

BTW, NOW I know why the unit was switched to low power. For the average user, that gives you some actual range of gain adjustment. Dear lord, talk about your non linear volume pot! The amp is near full power at like 5 on the knob switched to full power! I barely have it past 1 in normal use!

Also, something I haven’t seen mentioned, there is an actual top and bottom on the pushbuttons. The front of each button is sloped a bit. I pulled off all the buttons to clean them and stick on my new labels and two were upside down and not noticed until on the receiver. Then I had to carefully peel them off and reattach them!

Thanks for the BOM, dlucy, it was a good start. Mine has the separate phono board and smaller tone board so all the transistors are different. A few C632AY71 and NEC A640 2L11, which I haven't found a cross for. The Power Protection board is also different, mine as more caps, but mostly the same components. I already had all the common capacitors. Driver boards are identical.
