Sansui SR 838 Turntable Owners - Do you want a 'Subweight'?

Do you need a Sansui SR-838 "Subweight"? If you are running a heavy-ish cart which weighs ~10 grams or more, this near-impossible-to-find accessory is required to properly balance the tone arm.

I am going to have one/some made, as I now have specs for the part, and have sent them to a tool & die guy for his price estimate. Please let me know of your interest in having one made. I don't know pricing yet, but am soliciting buyers for a potential order. I will be in touch when I have a list of buyers, a rough quantity, and price(s). Cheers!

Hi Augie: I have not moved forward as yet as my fabricator fellow disappeared on me. I need to track down a tool & die shop guy who will hand this to a HS student/apprentice for laughs and not a lot of money. I know they are out there. What would you expect a reasonable price would be for this part, in your opinion?
 
Ok folks, I may have a resource to fabricate the SR-838 backweight. Please "re" indicate your interest in getting your own copy of this piece made. Thanks! S

Doug: My fellow made one. I am going to get it from him this week and check the fit and usability. I'll also have to source an 'O' ring to make sure it stays attached to the arm. I'll report back here after I get it and get those things done. S
 
Here is the first 'one'. Fellow actually made four. One at spec shown above, and three additional, each 5 thousandths larger than next at male bit that inserts into tone arm. So 0.005, 0.010 and 0.015 over. The first three fit into the back of the tone arm fine. The largest does not. I will secure some O rings now to check fit with that addition in place. Again, advise if you want one of these, so I can ask him once for a group of parts.

I now have a functional solution to the O ring, but it is not optimized. For the subweight made to exact Vintagear specs, I installed five of one type of O ring, the P/n N0.50X004.3, sourced from the O Ring Store. When five are on the weight, I get a nice snug fit. I am now awaiting an O ring reco from the O Ring Store - so that only one ring need be installed. Once that is done, I'll be able to have more weights made for those who are interested, and have a supply of O rings to complete the solution. Cheers!
 
Hello folks. Someone recently DM'd me on this topic. I will endeavor to find another tool & die guy to make the final adjustments to the prototypes I have. I was so so close but my guy flaked out and ghosted me, which caused me to put the project down. I just need to adjust (deepen) the depth of the groove to hold the rubber O-ring, and make sure the final spec of the rubber band with the place that sold them to me (supplier sadly was not interested in helping out hobbyists like us based on quantities!). Give me a til mid February to work out those steps. I now have a group of automobile-fanatic friends, so they will surely know someone to help. Cheers.

If you don't use the (quite heavy) original headshell, SR-838 can accommodate 12g cartridge without extra weight.
 
I’d be interested a couple. Your timing is serendipitous. I just picked up a heavy Sansui HOMC head shell/cart.
