Sansui SR 838 Turntable Owners - Do you want a 'Subweight'?

In Germany - as of today: I have to pay for goods delivered to Germany from non-EU countries first an import VAT tax (19'% or 7%) and then the HS/HTS-code dependant custom tax. Above 150 Euros I do have to pay additional taxes.
And DHL or whatever postal carrier will ask me in all cases for a charge (DHL is asking for 6 Euros per parcel if they deliver things that were "taxed" or "in custom service")

Means, if the two pieces of that subweight stay below 150 Euros, I am good with the normal amount of taxes.
Quote from the link below - as this was different in the past when also the postage costs were added to the "final amount": "The limit of 150 euros refers to the value of the goods. It is not required to include the costs of transport or postage in such a declared value" (https://www.zoll.de/EN/Private-indi...xes/Internet-orders/internet-orders_node.html)
Very good! I will endeavor to keep the price down of course!

@peterott
@plresults
Thank you both.
I know that in EU till €150,-- if shipper and I declare it as a non commercial item you only pay Vat (23% here) and carrier fixed tax, my only doubt is if freight is not to be added to that, I will confirm it here but it should be the same as in Germany.
Here on a normal import over € 150.-- from outside EU customs always also asks for a print screen of the purchase on Epay or other + proof of payment and sometimes declaration that item is not to be reselled...
I will check the above and also the shipping possibilities, pse. let let me know if you have any prefered svhipping company.

Hello. Is there still time to order? I have an 838 arriving later this week and have no idea whether this weight is included. It wasn't discussed with seller. I also have a 717 that I picked up locally last week and the seller did mention the missing weight. Honestly, I didn't know what he was talking about. I know these are for the 838/929, but I wonder if they'd be compatible with the 717. In any event, I'd be interested in at least one if there's still time to get in on the action. Thank you.

I’ll put you down for one. My production guy (same as designer) has ghosted me for going on two months. Will continue to ping him.

Great! Thank you!
Just received my SR-838 and indeed it's missing the sub-weight so I'm confirmed for one if you make any progress with your designer. Incidentally, I have a very close friend who's an engineer and master fabricator. He's a car guy, but I wouldn't put it past him to be able to design, fabricate, or machine this, or source somebody who can. May be worth exploring if you find yourself at another dead end. He's here in Boise. Happy to explore if needed. Thanks.

p.s. Come to think of it, I have two such good friends. The other is a very successful designer and manufacturer of high-end machined alloy recovery gear used in the 4x4 off roading world. Here again, another good lead if nothing else.

This fellow (unlike the prior guy) has done 100% of the work, including sourcing the hard rubber band. It’s all done. I just need him to respond if he’s going to do the production. He has the design captured in a file for production. I hope he sees it through. If not, hopefully he give me the file. Or I can pay him for his time.

Those pic's look familiar ;).

So I count five takers plus one for me. I will get to work on that source and get back to you. Again, I am shooting for $50 cost plus whatever your shipping is. From all the feedback here on AK, it appears this will work for 838, 929 and 636. I used the data provided here, and my guy Jeremy took 8-10 months and a visit to my 838 to do the final piece. More to follow. I am submitting the initial production run number to him today.

For clarification, this sub-weight will not fit the SR-929. The sub-weight for the 929 is different.

Vintagear: How is it different? Thanks!

The section of the sub-weight that inserts into the back of the 929 tonearm has a larger diameter. So if you try inserting the 838 sub-weight into the 929 arm it will just fall out as it is too small. The 929 sub-weight is also taller/longer and heavier by an additional ~6.5g.

Thank you for the update! I appreciate it! I will modify my expectations and comms to reflect that. I wonder if a sleeve of some sort on the 838 weight would address the issue?

Separately, I am still being ghosted by my prototype guy! Gahh! I will see him in June at a track day (car) event. I am hoping to reach him before that to either get a commitment from him, or at least the 3D file so that I might get these priced and made for peeps.
