Sansui SR-838 turntable sold on eBay above $1,000

Nope. If he gets an honest $1000 at an auction, then by definition that IS the market price.

Outliers do not reflect market price.

Would you say the price of a 1992 Nissan Stanza is fair at $50,000 just because one sold for that price on eBay?

Outliers do not reflect market price.

Old stereo guy's listings are heavily followed and known for establishing the high end of the vintage audio market place and have been for awhile now. His items that bring that top dollar are always very well written listings of near mint/museum quality that start at .99 cents and most include original packaging, manuals, sales tags, receipts, and other doo dads making them more desirable. He puts much effort in making certain that his items are the best representation of that particular item and is rewarded with a strong sales result that usually sets the high bar for such listings.

That's what I said in a previous post -- then another user said its the market price. It's not market price of it's an outlier

It does take more than the occasional top notch listing to move a market up, but his consistent performances sure don't drive prices down at all......;)
