Sansui Throne

I went through the SR-838 as well. Full recap and aligned to with a scope. She sounds great with an ortofon black on her

I did a basic restore on the TU-9900. Nothing was wrong with it. I just wanted reliability. She was just a dusty girl. I left the lights origina as they are hard to find LEDs in the aqua blue for.

And the last one I restored was the SR-929. The tonearm wiring had a really poorly done splice done at some point so I ordered new wiring for it from moon audio. Highly suggest the if you need to replace that wiring! I replaced the worn out feet and fitted her with a Nagaoka MP-500.

Wow. BTW, are you in Ohio? I noticed the old service sticker on her BA-3000 had a Toledo address on it. I wonder how far that unit had travelled. I JUST picked up a CA-3000/BA-3000 pair a few weeks ago (have not gotten into them yet) and I am 90% of the way through my SR-838.

No I’m in Southern California. Yeah there was that service sticker on there that I left it for nostalgia. He definitely lifted some pads! Good luck with that 838! My recommendation would be to start with the power amp. The preamp was the hardest of the bunch to work on with so much going on in there. I also documented my modern replacement of the reed relay. I battled a low channel output and an uncomfortable crunch sound when turning the preamp on for too long and it ended up being the reed relay. Message me if you have any questions pimpington
