Don't know about this model but when computerized stuff starts to act up it's time to reboot. I think these things have a battery for the memory. Try taking it out and keep your fingers crossed that it resets.

a friend of mine had that problem with a car stereo he got (from a totaled car, not stolen...), he just bypassed the security chip. i'm not sure how he knew what wire to solder, but it works fine now =] i think the same thing would work with your z-9000. you should try just about everything else before this, because there is a high chance of frying the thing.

and idea what the battery looks like or where its located at

I had one of those until a few months ago, I put it in the "Give it a good home" pile at a gathering at delihaus's. I don't recall any locking feature on it. The battery is under a plastic cover, either on the back, or the bottom. I wish I could tell you more, maybe whoever grabbed the receiver at deli's will read this and help you out. I still have a 7900Z wrapped up waiting to be put back in my rotation!

I never had a manual for mine, so I never even heard of a locking feature. If I remember, it was a single AA battery.

Its probably not AA batteries. It may just be a watch battery. A coin like disc.

nothing like that inside... no such battery... its got a lock out code i need to find... i think i need to press a few buttons but i dont know the exact code... its only "locking" out FM not AM or anything else

i have a z-3000 and since the z-9000 is the same generation (i think it is...) i went looking for a battery in mine. i couldn't find one. i do remember that capacitors are sometimes used instead of batteries. i don't know if this is the case for sansui, but this is could be what you're looking for:
ps have you tried leaving it unplugged a few days? the battery has to run out sooner or later, and then it goes back to factory settings =]

its was unplugged for monthes... on my reciever there is a green light that comes on that says its locked... its located by the "tuning indicator" and only goes on in FM

A green light that says "locked" only in FM? It may mean the signal is "locked in" not that it is locked out. Does the locked light go off if you change the station?
