Tiss the season for more broken, discarded audio stuff.
Adding to the pile:
KA-9100 Been wanting one of these, actually just finishing up ka7100 rebuild list.

KA-6004 Of course needs switch knobs as all are broken. Came with original service manual, spare heat sink/phono board/control board

Onkyo TX-2500mk2 Am antenna missing. Biggles 4500 which just sold on BT inspired me to give this sibling a go through.

Pioneer SA-6800 Fluoroscan! Units in good shape. Might start right up. Got an sx3700 in pieces at the moment so might work on both. Still wondering about volume issue but that's another thread.

Pioneer PL-A25 not bad shape. Nice cigarette melt on top of cover. Wood plinth is presentable.

Hafler preamp military green and it looks to have seen a little combat. Figured it might be welcomed by an AK Hafler fan who just scored another amp.

Last...Dahlquist DQM-5s Passed on these awhile back but could come back without some speakers. Need a lot of work. Obvious refoam but the funky sticky cabs will need to be stripped and veneered or what, coated with bed liner? They say they're very pleasant sounding so I'll try to do right by them.

I'll take suggestions, comments, whatever as I think about future fixing.

I haven't listened to, or done a laying on of hands with the TX-2500 receiver. Given the engineering and money put into cosmetic details, I would think that little rig will do very nicely.

Yeah I saw that Onkyo and I'm like, not as nice as the 4500 but I'll take it. Dark horse of the bunch. Talk about build. The older KA6004 has a very interesting aesthetic. Reveneering will be a pain though.

im thinking youll like the tx 2500 very nice little receivers , was my first stereo bought it for 75 bucks back in late 70's walked home with it in a brown paper grocery bag in middle of a snow storm , still got it to this day , still sings sweetly ,

Brought DB out to the holding area.

SA3700 powers up out of protect, fluoroscan works. Wait, ghosts in the machine...random relay clicks. Then normal, then some meter dancing. Now fine.

Onkyo powers on but has some electrical noise, bulbs maybe?

Of course the Ka9100 is blazing hot bulb

Ka6004, won't try being it came with spare parts who knows how torn up it is inside.

The Hafler preamp pictured is the later Hafler DH-110 preamp, nice little unit, easy to work on. I have one I bought years ago from a guy who said it wasn't working, still have it in the box waiting for some bench time.

The Onkyo TX-2500 is a very nice unit, I have one out in the garage rack pushing tunes whenever. It has tolerated heat and cold and keeps on ticking.

Yeah the Kenwood is unique. Very stylized. Gotta find those switch covers! Anyone got any?

I'll open up the Onkyo and take some pics. Probably end up giving all the units a thorough cleaning today since I've got several other filthy bottom covers floating around. Since it will be warm and sunny I'll take advantage and hose them down. (The metal parts) Sorry, folks just thawing out, it was a surprising 65 here yesterday.

Apparently, from what I read on the net, the 110 is the one to have. I'm using a DH-101 right now. It's in great cosmetic condition, surely it's original inside. I picked it up from an audio hoarder around the corner from me here in Richmond, same guy I got the Trusonics from. He only wanted 20 dollars for it because it didn't work. I took it home and looked up the owners manual and took a gander at it. Apparently, there are 2 jumpers that were missing on the back of the unit. I soldered in permanent ones from the inside and it works perfectly. I've been jonsin' for the 110 though, want to see what all the hubub is about. I like trying different flavors.

I, like many of us, spent the 70's drooling over new audio equipment of the time. We got literature, catalogs and visited local stores to poke and see all the pretty things. What we mainly saw were Pioneer, Marantz, Sansui, ya know? The big players in audio that had long been established here in the US. Onkyo didn't show up here in this area with any strength until the late 70's. That receiver you have, and the larger ones, were the first ones to really hit the streets with any authority. And then? When analog tuners went to digital in approximately 1981, the quality went down. Or at least the perceived quality went down. In any case, Onkyo and those receivers weren't around for very long and it was their first offering. This is what I remember from being there, I could be wrong.

Ha, I spent the late 70s mainly just drooling and making fire engine noises. There was however that cool audio ever present in the background.

Well geez if were smarter about these things I would've shut my mouth, fixed it and paid down all this audio debt

But this is what AK is all about, sharing the love. When I saw it I immediately thunk Biggles, so it'll go to a happy home. I do want to clean it up though. Since it's an upgrade, need to get it into the rotation ASAP!

Wonder if the rubberized cabinets are engineered as an improvement over the standard veneered. I'm guessing I won't take a huge hit over a well done veneer job but I certainly don't like taking away from them either.

Sticky and stinky Onkyo goodness.

Very solid build dude. I like a nice machined aluminum heat sink. 8200uf main caps, what's this listed at, 40 watts? I'm guessing that's conservative. Wimpy tuner capacitor compared to open little 330b sitting over yonder. Got room to swing an iron so I'll make a list and get cracking on this.

I think my Onkyo 4500 was rated at 55 a channel, not sure what that one is. I've got my father's and step mother's old PC's, they're out in my barn. Man, they're dark brown!!!!! They were once beige.

Grumpy's preamp? OoOoOooO. I wonder what's wrong with it. What do you think it is? Or is it missing the required jumpers on the back like mine was.

I've got a Christmas gift for you as well. Hooyah!
