I think you can catch up to him over at AA.
I thought I would add an update to this older thread. The Scott 340B mentioned in this thread is mine, it was returned to me wrapped in only bubble wrap. :thumbsdn: So you can imagine how it must of looked, or worked, after flopping around for its entire trip here. Needless to say it didn't work, had knob brites missing, and a big dent in the main power supply. :tears:
I sent it back for warranty repair, (as requested) but it is still not finished. I promise to give a full evaluation, and see how it really compares to some of my Fisher models, I hope this has a happy ending, it was a very nice mint condition unit. :sigh:
Now folks have an idea why he "might" no longer be on AK....you have to be careful when you don't have serious proof of the creature tapping the keys that make up the words you read on the internet....in other words believe nearly nothing of what you read, about 20's of what you hear and even be careful believing what you see with your own eyes.
I would put it in the same league for sound as my TA-800 that Jim restored, I prefer the functions, and features of the Fisher receivers over the Scott though.Yes, very-cool. Looks great. What speakers are you running with it? Frazier Elevens?
What tube brands are you running inside?
The first pair of speakers I hooked to the Scott were my Heresy's, I figured they would give me a good baseline of tubes and horns. Once I felt sure that everything was working correctly, I brought the Scott in and paired it with the Frazier Eleven's. I have been listening to this combo all afternoon, this combination is super good. Since getting my JBL 250ti's, I have been listening to solid state for awhile, the Frazier's and Scott are truly amazing.
From what I can tell, the Scott has GE 7591's, Westinghouse 12AX7's, RCA 12AU7's, and Scott labled 6AU6's.
Good mix. The old GE's are very-underrated. Their sound signature is similar to the old RCA house sound back in the day (the closest thing TO RCA, really). One of my favorite brands. And the Westinghouse 12ax7's are nice and warm, so it must be a sweet mix.
I figured you'd be wanting to use the Elevens. I imagine that being a good combination for old Zeppelin.
I had a option to buy a Fisher 500C or Scott LK-72B last year (same price). I contacted Terry for a Recap prices...Also asked which he would buy.
He preferred Scott....Did buy the Scott and sent for a complete Recap....Fantastic work and Fantastic Sound.
Considering the similar output tube and driver setup, this isn't all that surprising.very similar to my TA-800.
