Sennheiser HD600 Unboxing Video

Thanks for the share.

As much as I don't enjoy the Senn sound, I did borrow these from a friend for awhile and did think they were good cans, if you like the Senn sound. From what I've heard I wouldn't like the 650's as much (as they are less neutral).

I do like how the HD650 sounds with my Lehmann Audio Black Cube Linear. I'm gonna brun the HD600 in a couple of days before I do any comparisons.

Love my HD 600s! I prefer its mids even to the HD 800 and Beyer T1. Smooth but detailed treble and the perfect amount of bass.

It makes me want to try the LCD-2...

I just got a pair of Alessandro MS1i 'phones - they're quite impressive. In fact, really impressive for just $110 shipped. Except for the soundstage (and comfort), they're almost the equals of the HD 600.

I really like the look of the plastic. Very cool. to point out the cord does seem a little bit cheap, it only looks a little bit thicker then the one on my HD 203s.

In regards to the cord, it is interchangeable with the 650 model. I bought a replacement for the model 650 and put it on my 600 headphones, the new cord is appreciably thicker, heavier - not sure it had any effect on the sound quality. Nice thing is that the 650 replacement cord is a pretty cheap mod compared to most of the exotic replacement cord improvements on the market for the Senns.

Interestingly, the 650 cable is much cheaper when ordering a replacement - about $13 compared to something like $38 for the original 600 cable.

The 650 cable is terminated in a 1/4" jack instead of an 1/8" jack, which many with full sized amps might find more suitable. Otherwise you'll need the $6 female 1/4" to male 1/8" adapter - putting the total cost at half that of the original cable.

I do believe that the original 600 cable has Kevlar or other fiber reinforcement that makes it much sturdier than it appears (that might account for the price difference). Also, it'd be interesting to see someone cut both open to see how the conductors compare.

I bought the 650 cable and I don't think I can hear any difference. I replaced the ear pads at the same time (over $40, ouch), which I think did help the soundstage (I believe increasing the driver-ear distance helps decrease the "sound sources right next to you" feeling that can be overbearing.). Actually, between that and playing around with a crossfeed plugin for Winamp, I've made my headphone experience much closer to that of speakers.

I do still plan on keeping the 600 cable for portable use - it is much more flexible and much thinner.

Sorry for the delay. I just got back this morning from Hong Kong and Thailand. Give me a couple of days to do the comparison. :)
