Seven vs Eight Deluxe

And to Charix - As stated I have A/B'ed the Six / Seven / Eight head on - they have a very similar sound that I would describe as Punchy and detailed, not particular warm or soft, yet very musical and live.

My 8D sounds amazing. I just move the volume a hair and it's sounding much louder. The bass is deep & low, midrange & high frequencies are silky smooth, very "Live" sounding.

It is the sonic presence or power of the Seven that always impressed me. I have compared the Seven to several other receivers and have always thought the Seven sounded better. It is another reason I was interested in the amp design. Why does it sound better to me. There are certainly more powerful and louder receivers but the Seven's sound is special.

Then you'll love the six too - it doesnt have the middle tone control - that is a good thing for purity of signal as these amps have no defeat - it is only 29 Watts, but can really deliver a clean punch. Every bit as good as the Seven imo. I dont think I could tell a difference between Seven vs Six.

But my restored first gen. 555a/777a ........dont even get me started. Another thread for another day. Cheers !

I am not a pure audiophile. For jazz, acoustic and some classical I will have the tone controls flat or close to flat. For my preferred pop/rock I hit the loudness and crank up the bass and treble and down the mid by -2db. The mid control is a feature I like about the Seven. Just down by -2db takes some of the edge off when playing it loud without making it muddy. I don't notice the tone controls adding distortion except the bass boost makes it is easier to run out of power...

Thanks! So it looks like the 5500 came after the eight and was available the same time frame as the 7000 and the seven, but before the eight deluxe. It would be interesting to know how these all compared from a design, build and sound quality. Anyone heard them all?

This is production information not sales availability. Many of these models may have been available at the same time depending on available inventory in a particular store. I also think that some of these models may have been sold through different sales channels. The 5000X, 7000 and Eight were all produced around the same time but that doesn't mean all three would be on display next to each other in the same store.

There has been some discussion in the past that the 7000 was primarily sold through the US military PX system. The other modeled could have been split between competing Stereo chain stores.

Tiga, you need to get one of each and give us a report.
