I saw Rainbow on the McIntosh website yesterday. (The scroll window on the left is cantankerous making it hard to get to.) Rainbow was recommended by someone in McIntosh's service department a couple years ago.) I don't know any other place in Sacramento besides Rainbow and Paradyme.

But this looks promising as a local place.

I'm in Oakland, and when looking into somebody to help with a couple of McIntosh pieces that I have I found out about a fellow AK'er in the San Jose that evidently is very capable. He was mentioned in this post The Crow called McIntosh I’m about to eat - MC 2105 about another local's AK'er (@jobrewer1983 ) adventure acquiring a Mac amp and how Ben did the work on it. I had a good offline discussion with him but haven't yet used him but probably worth contacting for information.

there were a few local shops, sertrch, sounds unique, playhouse, a few others.

Yes; the post was referring to places listed on the McIntosh service website as McIntosh authorized. Only one in the SF Bay Area and 2 more in the Sacramento area.

Do you recommend any of these for OP's repair? I've had some nice speaker repair work done by Sertech but not sure they're the best for this project.

Based on what the website says (I have no experience with them), Ben's Audio looks perfect for this project as they say they restore, do preventive maintenance, repair and even modify. Most local shops will only repair to factory spec. I see they are new, founded in 2022. Their list of what they service shows only electronics, and so not (I guess) tape decks, CD players, or speakers.

I really hope they're as good as the website looks and that they last for awhile.

Yes I suggested using Ben, he restored my 2105.

so if you know sertrch, you know Norm. Norm lives across the street from Ben. Norm is a good tech, but I don’t think they do fill restorations, more of a find and fix shop.

Ben is next level, he can fix your amp, but he’s knowledgeable with cap selection and placement, he’s a hawk on the scope and his work speaks for itself. His amp work is fantastic, I don’t think you will find a better tech in the area.

He is also the grandson of the head of engineers from Marantz from the 70s-90s, also interned for PS audio….. don’t think you will find better locally.
