Sewer pipe speakers....down the drain!!

Bose developed a movie-theatre sub that was essentially a 12 ft. tube with a woofer stuffed in one end. Apparently, it had incredible bass response and dynamic range.

re. 'audiophile' grade PVC.

The thick stuff.

Built a pair of MTM's using PVC. Painted them piano black and put rhinestones on em. Wife giggled, kids thought they were cool (well, the were young at the time). But, I was allowed to keep them. :thmbsp:

What you are looking for is not something which will get your wife's approval. What you are looking for is something which allows your wife to feel superior and roll her eyes at you. This gives her some investment in the speakers without wanting to actually be in the same room with them... mostly. :music::naughty::arrow:

Kind'a like the purpose of diplomacy: 'to maintain a state of tension just shy of actual violence'. :scratch2::D:dunno:

Don't forget... El-Pipe-O.
These could be built into a house from the basement up (or attic down) to excellent effect...

Got a question. How in PVC's name are the little woofers screwed onto the pipes? Looks rather interesting and i have a pair of woofs that just might work. But also hesitant at the same time.

Driver is a Pioneer PE12. Hesitant because i dont want to chink the driver in any way.

With the PE12, since it is designed to be mounted from the back of the baffle (isn't it?), I would cut an appropriately sized circular baffle ring out of plywood, attach the PE12 to the baffle from behind and then attach the baffle to the pipe. There are probably several ways to mount the baffle to the pipe but I think I would attach a set of cleats inside mouth of the pipe and screw the baffle into them. Use a sealing material between the baffle and the pipe.

What is audiophile PVC pipe from Home Depot? :D

No typpo, just go to the electric aisle, where the conduits are and ask for audiophile grade PVC. Made in Germany by Georg Fischer GF, in France by Saint Gobain, in Japan by Asahi, in Canada by IPEX, and in USA by JM Pipe. The alternative is Chevron-Phillips Performance Pipe Division audiophile HDPE pipe.

It was meant as a joke by the poster.

Poor Plumbers Plutos

Did someone mention sewer pipe speaker? ABS? TL?

:guitar: I see a white pipe, and I want to paint it black...! :music:

Q: Why is BPC not popular in audio circles like AK, but PVC is?
A: Because a system being black just isn't enough, unless it's got VINYL in it!

BPC = Black Plastic Cr*p
PVC = Perfect Vibrations Conduit
ABS pipe = Absolutely Bitchen-Soundin' pipe

Actually, such abbreviations/acronyms can have many interpretations, depending on the context. Take "BPC", for example:

To a marketer, it means Boomers Paying Cash.
To a credit checker, it means Better Pay Cash.
To a priest, it means Beatified Praying Catholic.
To a sadist, it means Beaten, Pelted & Cowed.
To a teenage male, it means Beat (the) P*nis (until you) C*m.
To a gynecologist, it means Beavers Producing Children.
To a monk, it means Better Pray Constantly.
To a bra designer, it means Breasts Perfectly Cupped.
To Michelangelo, it meant Beautiful Pieta Carving.
To a "Blood" gangsta, it means Bullets Puncturing Crips.
To a boxer, it means Battered, Painful Cranium.
To a comb-tooth cutter, it means Be Perfectly Consistent.
To Wisconsin, it means a Billion Pieces (of) Cheese.

You get the idea now. I'll shut up.
I obviously have too much free time today. :D

Got a question. How in PVC's name are the little woofers screwed onto the pipes?

On mine (linked to a pic back on page 1 but not embedded so I'll include it here) I used a flat cap on the PVC. I used a fly cutter to make a cutout for the speaker and just screwed it to the cap then stuck the cap on the end of the PVC.

I went through a few iterations. This is the result. No sub needed. The bass from these rumbles the room and resonates your internal organs.
