SF CL Pioneer SX-1050. Any one?

OK, I called the guy. He said it does not work but it powers up. No sound. I said it needs the jumpers on the back, and he said oh ya that's right. He is going to test it and call me back. He will still sell it to me for $75.
DOES ANYBODY WANT THIS. I will pass on it if so. He says it is in great condition, but who knows. It's about 45 minutes away from me.

I will post his findings after he calls me.

Well, I should have known. He hooked it up to some car speakers and it worked. He called me and back pedaled. He said now that it works I got to get more for it. He was apologetic about not selling it to me for the agreed
$75.
He did say I could have first shot at it for $125. I replied with "I could have just bought it from you without telling you about the jumpers". He said I know, but I still have to get more, you know how it is.
This receiver has been posted on CL before. I remember the "needs tube".

Sorry guys. I blew the deal. But If I did buy it without telling the guy about the jumpers, the bad karma would be on me instead of him.

I woke him up early in the morning talking about the receiver but it is too far (1hr15min) for me so I passed. There is another 9090dB on CL Southbay and some idiots told the owner that he listed too low ($40). I guess people are becoming more saint nowaday.
 
While understandable, definitely not honorable.

Of course, you knew this would very likely happen when you diagnosed it for him. Many people, unfortunately, aren't all that honorable and their word is good for 3 seconds and a foot and a half, whichever occurs first.

Personally, If I was interested in it, I wouldn't have told him the likely scenario and bought it on speculation. In my opinion, it's not being dishonest to hold back information in a deal if it isn't a known fact. In this case, the problem might not have been the jumpers.

Once discussed and resolved, regardless of the source of the information, the resolution and value of the item is better known and therefore subject to renegotiation. Prior to that, it was a guess and speculation. Legally and morally there is a significant difference.
 
125 is still a good deal for one of the best receivers out there. i would jump on it if i weren't already one of the lucky ones to own one. my .02

BAD Karma WHAT bad Karma. The seller sets the price the buyer meets that price everyone is happy you wouldn't have cheated anyone.

I think a better understanding of KARMA might need to be spread among some of the people here.

Karma does not mean you have to pay top dollar for everything you buy.

As advertised $75.00 is a better deal. You did the honorabele thing,not necessarily the right thing IMO. Here is another example: You are a mechanic and someone calls you to come get a car that they can't get started. They want it gone,period. You get the car to your shop and have it purring in ten minutes. Do you call the people back and tell them it was a $10.00 fix and to come get it? Do you say nothing and put the car up for sale for $1000.00. The problem is really a matter of what your knowledge is worth. It was years of working on cars that allowed the mechanic to fix the vehicle so quickly and inexpensively. If the mechanic gives the car back to the owner they will be very happy and a customer for life as long as every problem is then fixed in the same quick and inexpensive way.:yes: Now let a serious and expensive issue arise and that same customer could be the first to tell ten people that you are a cheat or ripoff or something to that effect.:yes: That too is Karma. In this country knowledge is power. You can feel good about telling the guy about the jumpers. But you are out an SX-1050 for it. I guess I am a little jaded these days. I got laid off the 5th of January and have been looking for work since. I had an interview this morning and was offered less than what I get in Unemployment. I hate to say this but I felt really insulted. Yes I agree that $125.00 is ok for an SX-1050. Chazzerlady picked one up two weeks ago for $5.00 with all the paper work. The seller said only one channel worked beause a capacitor was dried out....it was just thirsty and I gave it a drink of Deoxit and it's all better:D Should I return it to the seller and say I can't take this for $5.00 when it just needed a switch and pot cleaning. Should I sell it for $10.00 so that I feel good about my good fortune in getting it so cheap? Don't shoot me I'm just venting I guess. I would not say a word and if it was/is a simple as the jumpers. Just consider this: you as the savvy buyer get the 1050 for $75.00 and fix it. He as the savvy seller sold a perceived non working unit for $75.00 and both of you are happy. Simple business. I have picked up plenty of stuff at Goodwill that said "works as-is" to find that it does not work 100%. The same can be said for yardsales. The Goodwills and most thrifts testing is simple: if the lights come on it works deal. They don't allow pre-testing or returns on electronics in most cases. Not trying to rain on the parade just my .02.

I called the guy to try and find out why he thought the tube was out. He may have been playing it loud when it quit. He did not remember when or why it quit. I told him that it was not a tube unit. He had no idea. I told him I had an idea of what was wrong, the jumpers. He sounded so happy that I told him. He said he would test it and let me know, and that even if it works, he still needs to sell it and would sell it to me for $75. I felt good about that.
He must have thought that it still would not work when he told me that.

Any way, to respond to your comment. I do not need that receiver. It has been posted before and not sold. Probably because he stated it does not work. There may be someone out ther that wants it but does not know how to fix it. Now that he lists it as working, maybe that person will want it.
And $125 is still a good price. I don't feel right going to someones home and buying a piece of gear, that they think is broken, for cheap and laughing all the way home. That's just me.

I bought a Sansui AU-555a from a guy who bought it new and loved it. There was an intermitant channal and a popping noise. I replaced some caps and transistors and it works perfect. I thought about calling the guy and seeing if he wanted to buy it back for what I had into it. It took so long to fix that I do not have the e-mail with his number.

Well all of this makes me realize the guy who backed out on a Sui 1000x is a **** bag.

We agreed on a sui 1000x and hk-740 for 25 bucks. He responded to my want ad to begin with. He mentioned the 25 too, not me.

What a bastard. :pistols:

You know that 1050 is still worth 125 though.
