SF CL Pioneer SX-1050. Any one?

Chazzer, maybe he is a guy out of work too and needs the money. Who knows. Any way, if I wanted it I would not have posted it.

I also have no problem buying broken gear and repairing it guilt free.
But I did not buy it and get home to find the jumpers missing.

I am not out anything. But I am sorry that another AKer does not get the $75 deal.

If you have read any of my previous posts you would know that I don't usually pay any where close to top dollar.

The guy described it as immaculate. If so, worth $125 easy.

I sold in the same SF CL market an excellent SX-1050 for $300 and another mint one for $350 a year or two ago. BTW...that's what I paid for them with shipping. Both buyer were extremely happy and one guy drove 2 hours one way to get one.

So if this one is any kind of decent shape $125 is a real bargain.

You know that 1050 is still worth 125 though.

A SX-1050 is worth twice that and then some. eaaaasssssily

And Rob is a good man and shouldn't have to explain that to anyone. I think is all honesty if I were selling something I thought was inoperable I would price it accordingly, if I discovered my error I would have corrected it as the guy did. and as many have stated the 125 was STILL a great price and a score/steal. I wouldn't have stated I would still go forward with the sale at 75 dollars and that was the only mistake the guy made.

Well I guess my point was a little blurry. I'll clear it up now. Yes Rob is a good man and "karma" will be with him. I would /have done the same thing in the past. The seller should have honored the price, period! Taken it as a learning lesson and do a little research next time he want's to sell a piece of gear. The seller may have been blessed by "karma" at some point in return for honoring his original price. Rob you could have taken a couple of jumpers over and "learned" the seller and maybe given him $100.00 for it and alls well that ends well. What you do with the unit afterwards is up to you. If you "flip it" to finance something else so be it. Its OK to do that. I don't/didn't mean to sound insulting or degrading or anything like that. The price was/is not the issue.Honor honor honor! Here is my example: Saw a pair of Dahlquit DQ-10's, which are my avatar, someone posted here that were on the Tallahassee CL and located in Panama City a 2 hour drive from here. The asking price was $250.00. The gentleman was the original purchaser of the units and assured me they were 100% perfect. I got to his home and removed one of the grills and the woofer foam flaked off like dust. Did I try to "haggle"? No. I simply showed my dissappiontmet by saying "darn, I'll have to get them fixed". I was however thinking to myself that I don't really nead another set of speaker's especially one's that need fixed. I allready have about 150+ pairs. I really didn't wan't to back out of the deal as he had turned down offers of substantially more money for them if he would ship. I did what I knew to be the "honorable" thing, I gave him his money and was off knowing I still got a great deal. As "karma" would have it, this gentlemen has called me and asked me if I was interested in his Heathkit AA-1640 amp, a Mark-Levinson JC-1 pre clone that he built from the scematic using the same components as the original, the Dahlquist DQ-LP1 active crossover, and a set of Stax electrostatic earspeakers with amp for the paultry sum of $100.00 before he lists them on craigslist

I would have given him the money and walked. It may have needed jumpers or it may have needed more. If you give the seller what they asked for it... what's the problem? I've learned that craigslist seller's will screw you every which way... so I don't help them do it! I've also learned that craigslist buyer's will do the same, so be ready for it, it happens! Hopefully, you won't have to deal with any of them after the fact, but that happens occasionally also.:yes: Brad

You take your chances when you buy this stuff and frequently the odds are against you. (I've got a few hangar queens around the house to prove that.) So when the odds run in your favor you refuse to play the game and turn the advantage back to the house?

If you offered the seller $75.00 you should have said nothing else and drove up to fetch the item and took your chances on the cables being the problem. Instead you you gave away a valuable bit of knowledge that you probably accumulated at some cost to yourself, for nothing. The seller gave you nothing for your "noble" act, and in fact, left you empty handed. He aqcuired something for nothing.

I bought a 1050 on ebay a paid a "noble" price for it. When it came I found it had some problems requiring a lot work. I contacted the seller and "It sounded good blah, blah." The karma is in getting the great deal because most of the time your gonna get a screwing.

Rob did the right thing and asking $125 was still a very reasonable price. And not all CL seller's are bad. I'm not.

Good Karma Bob is but he might have ruined other people hope of getting a cheap and good gear. Does this mean whenever we see something is not right we should tell them (sellers) how to fix it and expect them to keep the original promise? If they don't then we curse them? Does it mean whenever we see a McIntosh 240 with a $10 tag we must tell the seller it is worth more than that and proceed to tell them to sell it on Ebay for a couple thousand grands? I guess if we all do that then there is no such thing called "score". Is $125 still a good deal? Yes it is but it is also $50 more expensive than to begin with. What is the point? The point is don't ask don't tell and don't volunteer the info. My 2cents .

That receiver has been on CL for some time. I've seen it pop up for a couple of weeks. I guess no one wanted the "cheap and good gear" because it did not work. Now it works and some one can buy it for a good price.

I agree with LesB. I recently bought a tuner / Int amp from a fellow AK'er that unknowingly worked intermittently. The tuner would die after about 2 hours. Cool it down and it would run another 2 hours. This person had to know of this condition. I say the jumper situation is educated buying. this relates to the hordes of internet sellers out there that are picking up items at estate sales and such. Some have no knowledge of what they are selling, don't test the items, and don't know if they work. Why should we tell them? Also, some know the items don't work and remove the jumpers to fool us into thinking that's all it is. Right, wrong or indifferent, that's my rambling for today.
