Sherwood S-5500 Schematic

I am looking for a schematic for a Sherwood S-5500 amplifier. This amp has the 7591 output tubes that are horizontally mounted and 5 12AX7 tubes. The rectifier is a voltage doubler. I have looked on google and I can only find the S-5000 schematic and it looks close to this amplifier. Does anyone have the correct schematic for this amp?

I have that schematic, but I think it is on a USB drive that I took to work last week. If you can wait until Monday I am sure I can find it.

I really like my S-5500, right now paired with Allison CD-8 speakers.
 
I think thats the original 5500. My 5500-II is 7868 tubes, but its probably pretty close. There are schematics for that available here

The 5000 is also pretty close, but I want to say the tone controls are a little bit different. Power amp section is pretty much identical on all of the 7868 and 7591 Sherwood gear. The power supply changed slightly from version to version though, and its not even a guarantee that the "right" schematic is 100% accurate. My 5500-II had some number of differences from the available 5500-II schematic.

Did you ever find a readable schematic for your S-5500 (serial #K12393)? I have 2 S-5500 with similar serial #'s (K154xx), and am finding it difficult to find a schematic that covers this series. The most common version covers 26420 and up, but the scan isn't all that great. The B+ voltages given aren't clearly legible, for starters.

If you've been able to locate a schematic or user's manual from that series, I would really appreciate your helping a stranger out and posting it.

This is probably the one you need. I believe it's the only Sams that covers the first version of the S-5500 with the output tubes mounted horizontally. Was the version you referred to (SN 26420 and up) put out by Sherwood? If you have that one or have a link to it, please post it.

Most of the ones posted can be enlarged to make them easier to read.

Here's what I have for the S-5500 II. It covers serial #K38634 and up. If your's isn't in that range it should still be fairly close. Sherwood engineers made a lot of running changes.

Are those rectifiers drawn backwards/incorrectly in the bias supply/dc heater supply? Looks like they'd need to face the other direction for a negative voltage on the bias tap, no?

They must have revised the bias circuit ten times on this thing.

I have the Sherwood S5500 MK2 and I replaced all the capacitors. There was a 2 section capacitor, each section was 300mf at 75 volts. I replaced them with the same value capacitors and one overheated after 20 minutes and the other was warm. I did also replace the selenium diodes that are in this path. It sounded great so I don't understand why it overheated?
 
Did you connect them the right way? The low voltage caps are in the bias supply, so they need to have the positive side connected to chassis ground and the negative side goes to the supply. If you fitted them negative side to chassis ground it won't work. replace the caps too, they don't like being powered up backwards.

Also those diodes are silicon, not selenium.
 
Thank you for the response. by positive, anode side to ground? I have ordered new caps. I would also like the correct Schematic if anyone has it. It's a S5500 MK2 there is a knob on the left side of the face plate for adjusting the phono input. The output transformers are mouthed to the top of the chassis in the middle.
 
electrolytic caps don't have anodes. They just have positive and negative sides. Modern ones tend to only be marked on the negative side. Bias supplies are negative relative to chassis.


This is the only 5500-II manual I'm aware of, though its not quite a direct match for my own 5500-II. Seems like Sherwood did multiple running changes with the same model number and not all of those schematics have survived.
