Should I use a shorting or non-shorting rotary switch?

I have searched the forums and can't find a definite answer. I am building a audio source switch box and would like to use a high end ELMA rotary switch. My question is should it be shorting or non-shorting?

I know the shorting switch is the "make before break" type, just want to do this right. I think I read somewhere that in order to avoid loud pops when switching a certain type was recommended.

Thanks a million

If you use the shorting type, connect your sources to the switch with some series resistor so that the two sources don't "fight" when they are momentarily connected to each other.

Otherwise use a non-shorting switch.
