Should we put weights on speakers

Except for the moving assemblies of transducers, nearly anything in the audio chain that moves or vibrates can benefit from mass loading and/or damping. This includes crossover components, wires and cables, transformers,motors, chassis' etc..

You are stretching this a bit! You do mention in the audio chain, thereby claiming an audible result? With due respect, you wll have a hard time to prove that all the things you mention are 'microphonic' enough to cause an audible sensation. There is such a thing as 'limit of hearing'!

(From someone who examined this in physics with as sensitive measuring equipment as was available; not for audio purposes but influence on experimental accuracy. I am talking of orders lower vibration than will ever be audible.)
 
What makes a difference is the mass of the loudspeaker proper. Thus if an added weight is firmly coupled to the loudspeaker it will reduce any (low) frequency resonance the loudspeaker proper might have with whatever else. The spike thing is often overrated. The wrong mechanical logic predicts that things should be better, ergo ....

Doppler effect is a function of the amplitude of the source movement. Thus I doubt that 'steadying' a loudspeaker cabinet will have any audible effect thataway unless it was rocking about on springs to begin with. If a change was heard it did not have to do with Doppler effect.

Spikes are really helpful on carpet though. I have experience to support that. I have never quite understood the reasoning behind using spikes on any kind of hard floor though.
 
Totem sells some magic mojo called "beaks" for over $100 per pair. You need 2 pair for a pair of speakers. I'm not sure of their rationale but I've always assumed that they were aesthetically pleasing weights to go on top of your speakers.

Your subjective parsing of my words is duly noted. Your interpretation of my words, and your pre-conceived bias suggest it would be difficult to prove anything to you outside of your belief system.
 
Can`t remember the speaker or the reviewer but I remember he put a small bag of lead shot on top of each speaker and claimed to hear a difference. Better ears than I, me thinks..:music:
That would be the former owner of my Polk speakers. I've seen his reviews and the sack of lead shot flopped on top of the speakers and he swore it made a difference. I've never tried it as I don't have sacks of lead shot hanging around and I really wasn't thrilled with the way it looked either.

With all due respect I'm going to have to politely disagree on vibration having an effect on wires and cables. I think that's stretching things a little bit.
 
The reason I know about pavers is because I have one sitting on top of the sub for my rear channels (Acoustat SPW-1). The slab is 18" x 18" x 2". There are two Adcom GFA-545's and a Behringer CX-2310 on top of the slab. The whole shebang is on spikes.

Yes, we should put weight in/on our speaks.

I use sand and lead for this purpose. Even some high density rubber. Big fan of mass loading here, and my main system is in my garage so bags of sand or lead don't look out of place wherever I choose to use them, and it's a lot of places. Mass is your friend, engage him! (or her, gender friendly here)

Controlling vibrations and reducing cabinet movement is good for sound. Read an interview of Bruce Edgar who mentioned when he stuck a speaker cabinet in a big pile of sand how much better the bass was. I haven't tried this one yet though, but you never know.......
 
When I bought my Hornshoppes (used) and before I undertook redoing them, I kept hearing a rattling inside.
First thing I did was drill out a hole in the bottoms with a hole saw and out rolled a ****-load of BBs and it took me forever to get the damn things out.
