Hello! Anyone out there keep fish? The wife and I recently got back into aquariums, here's one of our tanks! It's a 20 gallon high tank, currently home to 5 gouramis, 4 serpae tetras, 4 albino cory cats, and a pleco. I thought it would be fun to see your tank set-ups too.

Cool idea. If I had the money I would have a saltwater tank. I always thought they were cool.
 
I assume so, as long as there are fish in it.

You've just inspired me to set back up my 1.5 gallon tank and get some fish (after running it for 2 weeks with no fish in it).

1.5 gallons:scratch2: thats just a big glass.:D

You need at least a 3 or 4 footer to be able to have some decent fish.

I'd love to get or build one at least 6 foot.

Many people are unaware of the work that goes into keeping an aquarium running properly. That is why the death rate of their fish is high.

Keeping proper ph levels & watching for diseases like "Ich" can be severely overlooked by the owner.

As a youngster about twenty or so I saw my dad work himself into a frazzle trying to keep a 55, three 29's & a host of 20 gallon tanks. He saw my measely 10 gallon tank for the first time & was hooked.

The work almost killed him, but he managed to sell all but his lovely 55 gallon tank.

That is GORGEOUS!! Nicely done! I have 4 tanks running right now, all freshwater. I'm waiting until I get a house again before I go too big, but when I can I'll try a saltwater tank.

I prefer the term "Crazy Fish People" to "Fish Nerd" though...LOL!

I'm glad to see this thread growing! Keep posting your tanks!

I used to have a 75 gallon in my room until my 6 year old fish died and shortly after my 15" Plecostomus died. Then tore it down and took the fish tank stand out and replaced it with a desk. Got this small one now since it fits on the desk and it's insanely huge.
 
I used to have a fish tank many years ago. It was a 30 gallon and I had fancy Goldfish in it.

Nice looking fish tanks here!

My Cousin has a floor to ceiling fish tank in his house. It's a saltwater tank. Some of his fish cost hundreds of dollars per fish! He must have well over 100K invested in it.
There is a seperate room just for all of the filters etc.
 
I am thinking about getting a 10 gallon tank for my office at work. I had them when I was a kid stocked with mollies and angelfish. Some college friends of mine were really into African ciclids. I was looking at Walmart recently and was suprised to see ciclids being sold as cheap as angelfish.
Whats the easiest fish to keep ? I thought it was goldfish but the guy at the pet store said they were dirty and you needed to keep the water changed. He said little fish like neon tetras or zebras were the easiest.
 
Here's my little 5 gallon tank. We started this as a hospital tank, and also used it to start live plant bulbs. Then we got a couple of mollies (silver and creamsicle lyretails) and some platys (red wag) for another tank and BAM! babies everywhere. So now we keep the baby fry in this tank until we know they won't get eaten, and we re-home them. It's amazing to watch them grow, they grow FAST!
I think it's a nice looking tank, for such a small one.

The wife and I were seriously into salt about 20 years ago. It's about quadruple as expensive today. I've still got my last black-back 55 plex show tank crated up down in the basement.

Zebras are nice, especially long-fin varieties. Check out Black Skirt Tetras. They are very hearty fish, and come in longfin too. Mine have been trouble free and you can mix with other community fish.
For something a bit more colorful, a couple of dwarf Gouramis might be nice. They come in many varieties and are beautiful fish, for not too much money. Petsmart has them on sale all the time, and they vacuum out thier tanks often and treat their tanks against infection, so I like to purchase from them. Fish that start off healthy adapt better and last longer. Whatever you do, put in a couple of small catfish (ottos, corys) to help keep the tank cleaner.

I had many fish tanks throughout the years. I actually had a 55 Gal that I had shipped in my hold baggage to many a country. They were all fresh water, community tanks.

The best and most successful one was in Spain. Had an undergravel filter with all live plants. Even had some dirt mixed in with the gravel. After it established itself around 3 months. Things really took off. Most fish that were hard to spawn, spawned. Angle fish, tetras, and such. I have many Dr. Axelrod's books.

It now resides empty in storage. Would love to get it up and running again.

I also had two 300 Gal homemade tanks but got rid of them.
