Show us your Realistic (Radio Shack) stuff

This was my bedroom setup when I was in my 20's.
My cousin sold me his STA-2100 receiver along with a TOTL 3 head cassette deck.
I further expanded it by buying every matching Realistic piece I could get at the time.
Includes a Realistic LAB direct drive TT, CD player, HiFi Stereo VHS recorder, EQ w/spectrum display, reverb unit along with (4) Mach Twos w/added super tweeters.

Still Have the STA-2100 in need of repair. The 4 Machs still see daily duty in my main setup. I do miss this almost entire Realistic setup. I also have a pair of Mach Ones in the wings awaiting when I get the 2100 repaired.

What is your impression of the super tweeters?

A crucial part of my main system to this day. Not sure I could get used to not having them. They have that high hat 'Tss Tss' so nicely.
They add highs that my Machs just can't project as well.
Of course they can wreak havoc too when recordings have production with overly done high frequency range. I find this mostly in the vocalists voice on low budget recordings.
I listen to alot of Rock & Metal music, but you can easily find me listening to the local classical station (the only radio station I will listen these days).

Throw on some Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Sade etc.. and the entire band is in my living room with me.
I guess you could say I really love the super tweeters since day one.
Think they would be overkill and ear killers if used on speakers that project alot of higher frequency range already (tinny speakers) but they work well with my Mach Twos no problem.

Realistic SA-950 amplifier

Haven't been able to find any info (or even another one for sale),on this Realistic SA-950 amplifier,despite looking through Tandy catalogues and doing web searches.It shares the exact same model number as a Pioneer amp,and is made in Japan.At a guess around 1981/82.

STA-235B I found on CL. It was almost free so I grabbed it. Have not done much with it yet but everything is working.

STA-52B that was bought new by a friend and given to me quite a while ago. I just took it out of service for a little tlc. This thing has been in a garage most of it's life and still sounds good! Every bulb has burned out years ago, but other than being dirty it is cosmetically in pretty decent shape.

I apologize for the crappy pics, these were taken for a reason other than show and tell so they are less than stellar photography.
 
OK, I'll admit that I have a thing for Realistic gear. It may not have been TOTL back in the day, but they made some nice stuff. Here's my modest collection:

STA-150 receiver -- sounds lovely paired with some KLH 17's
STA-120B receiver -- paired with some Dayton B652's at the moment
Modulaire receiver with matching speakers (12-1471)
Modulaire receiver (12-1469) -- not pictured, at work office
Modulette receiver
SCP-30 tape player
QA-622 amp
Minimus 7's, black
Minimus 7Ws (walnut)-- not pictured, at work office
TM-150 tuner (x3)
TM-101 tuner (new in box)
SA-150 amp
SA-10 amp
Nova 8 headphones

I would put the STA-120B and STA-150 up against similar receivers of their era (under appreciated, so to speak), and the Minimus 7's are quite nice. The rest of my collection is in circulation throughout the house, screened porch, and garages.

My office 'system'

Modulaire receiver + Minimus 7W's. Can't turn it too loud, so it works perfectly for its purpose.

Realistic DX-300 SW communications receiver.
It's custom made in Japan for Realistic,but not sure by who.So,I guess perhaps Kenwood :scratch2:

I don't see many of these around. Got it new in 1981. I just got through replacing the protection relay and recapping the amp and power supply boards. STA-2250.
