I picked up this STA-180 earlier this week. It was functional but the left channel had a fair amount of noise and the output transistors would get warm rather quickly. So I recapped everything and replaced all suspect transistors, mostly 2SC458s. Of course the idle current and centering voltages were also adjusted.

It also got new lamps for the dials and selector switches. I'll try to fix the veneer on the sides of the case over the summer. Right now it’s playing through a pair of Nova-7Bs. I like it!

Interesting. I expected the filter slope to be 20hz at a minimum, maybe even higher. It might do a decent job of it. I'll have to look up the op amps used too. I wonder if they used op amps with Jfets or Mosfets?

Still have the realistic watt meters I bought when I was 14 yrs old and the sta2080 receiver I bought d was hen I was 18 ! And they both work perfectly , the sta2080 I cleaned about 8 yrs ago and still has the original lite bulbs ! I’d of never thought I still be listing to it 54 yrs later I knew they were built good but wow !
 
Picked up anotherbset of the RCA-branded R/S Linaeum bookshelf speakers. Different porting (single very short tube) than the Optimus version, metal-cone woofers. Surrounds intact which I promptly fixed when tinkering with the crossover, so a new surround job (my first) became necessary.
Took a few hours (mostly cleaning them up), but they look good. Tonight I get to listen.

Love my new sta2080 that I bought in 1981 ! My realistic lab turntable ( lower model ) I put out of my misery with a hammer a couple of yrs later ! It was very satisfying at the time ! I should have got the better lab tt that was direct drive ! You get what you pay for , the sta2080 still sounds great and rocking the original bulbs , I deoxed the controls once !
 
I really dig the looks of the 2080 over the 2000, 4 big meters front & center and how the numbers are illuminated through the back, looks awesome! Triple tone control is always a plus too. But beggars can't be choosers.
