This is what THD looks like for another unit with a replaced speaker relay and a cleaned step attenuatior, but otherwise original condition.

Hi, everyone! I’m sharing a photo of my latest find from my favorite brand. The lack of a tone control on my Sony TA E88 preamp led me to look for an equalizer. I have a lot of audio sources: cassettes, vinyl records, and the radio. Not all recordings are perfect. Plus, my listening room isn’t perfect either. That’s why sometimes I wanted to boost the highs or lows. A miracle happened, and I managed to get my hands on this parametric equalizer. Now I can’t listen to my system without it. The most interesting thing is that it’s almost impossible to ruin the sound with this equalizer, no matter how I turn the knobs! But the sound definitely gets better. Maybe I’ll start a separate thread where I’ll describe my impressions of this unit in more detail!

I love the Sony but not on top of that Yamaha. You will bake both to death, when the amp is working

Actually, Pete, I'm amazed at how well this equalizer works. It doesn't distort the sound at all. I don't usually listen to music loudly, since I value my good relationship with my neighbors. With this equalizer, I was able to improve the sound even at the lowest volume. Without turning up the volume, I can hear the full frequency range and enjoy the music all night long!

I don’t doubt it sounds good, I doubt it is healthy to locate it above the amp.

Sony TA D-88b active crossover. A true high-end piece from the 1970s. You can set up a bi-amp configuration using four amplifiers for each speaker in your speaker system and adjust the tonal balance to your liking, bypassing the crossovers built into the speakers. You can also select the cutoff frequency using interchangeable units.

That's saying something.

The KBL is a heavy hitter and excruciatingly transparent. It does not play well with (all) others however. I generally appreciate total transparency, but the KBL can really highlight "imperfections" in a recording that is generally not well received.

What amp are you pairing with?

Wonderful piece.
If you ever run across a dead (or not) matching TA-N88B amp, I just sold a full set of new VFETs for same to a member here. He is clever enough that he would be able to rebuild a TA-N88B so it would live a long life rather than overheating and frying the VFETs.
