The interviews are an interesting read Axel ! Do you happen to have more interviews and/or reviews of Sony gear ? And the Esprit rewind seems to be broken ?
 
Sony PS-22 turntable, traded it recently for three 10.5" RTR tapes and an empty reel. :D Can anyone tell me what the bit of aluminum is on the left side of the tonearm hinge? It doesn't seem to have a function, it's not a counterweight or anything, and it's just held in with a friction-fit pin.

That is not the anti-skate weight (as I have learned). You got a better answer over in TT forum, IIRC.

Anyway, just picked up a 'score', I think. TA-3200F amp for $59.89. Am sure it will need the standard cleaning and setting, but should be a fun beast to get going. Have wanted one to try for a while. Pic's when it arrives.

If it is an anti-skate weight, why is there an anti-skate setting dial to the right of the tonearm? :confused:
 
I imagine its to insert a brush attachment into, hence cleaning the LP before the stylus gets there.

Didn't get the TA-E88B pre. The seller decided to remove his listing, so no luck for me. (good news for my bank account though :p)
 
Does anyone have the TA-3200F manual in .pdf or other electronic format? Would like to get a copy. Same for the owner's manual. Thanks.

:D I have 2 TA-E88 Pre but regretfully in Vietnam, come here and I will share one for only 250 US$

Sony ST-4950 with merrylander case :^)

Wanted to post a pic of the tuner especially now that its dressed up in Rob's handiwork.

The station pulling ability of this tuner beats any tuner or receiver that I've had. It is great that Sony tuners remain pretty much overlooked. Even better, I got this on eBay for $47. I asked Rob to fix one minor thing and since I didn't have any examples of Rob's woodwork I asked him to build a cabinet for me. If I recall correctly, it is cherry veneer. The pic doesn't really do it justice.

Saw that. Good price, even better that it doesn't need to be shipped. Looks in great shape, just needs a little cleaning/polishing. The listing is a lilttle screwy (like most of the Isoldits). Hopefully they don't give you the TA-E1000esd instead of the amp.

I've only heard of two other examples, both owned by AK'ers lordfoo and jovinyl.

According to Orion, it was available at the same time as the PS3000 and at $200, cost $50 more. It is semiauto but doesn't have the same tonearm. I'm hoping it has the same platter and drive. Don't know what to expect from the arm but for $60 this appears to be in very good shape so I thought it was worth the gamble. I'll know lots more in about 2 weeks when it gets here. Seller was amenable to packing instructions so with luck, it will survive the trip.

sony tae-8450 pre amp

My very first Sony, a tae-8450 which came from the Hartsfields owner, I was not able to swing a deal on the speakers though. This pre amp has a very special metering system which I am leaving to others to describe. The condition
is fantastic no visibe marks and came with all the original paper work, incl. individual test sheet showing distortion specs etc. I will report on actual listening
results a little later. here are a few pic,s to look at.

Very nice!! What are the fold-outs? Looking forward to getting mine back from EW (along with the TA-8550) so can compare to the Yamaha VFET amp. Seem to be plenty of these out your way. That is where mine came from, as well.

Anyone interested in splitting the cost of the .pdf service manual? I'll purchase and send along and we can split the cost by whomever is interested.
