Show Us Your Sonys!!!

SS-H7900, part of the MHC-7900 shown in the other pic (or Pixy Pro as they were called in other parts of the world).

I have two pairs, they have electrostatic tweeters, Motional feedback woofers, and they are supposedly biamped.

They sound like a million bucks (for a mini system). Depends a bit on the temperature in the room, and humidity, but they have excellent transparency, super imaging when seated right, and great taut and deep bass for their size.

Kristof,

As far as I can see, you only have Sony keepers !
The 'stats of the MHC sure are as they are quite rare - and they are electrostatics and just that justifies anything. The F55 is another. Pity the wood enclosure never was finally produced.

I tried once to start opening one of my N86Bs for the same lamp problem... I tried to start and quickly gave up :)

Thanks Axel. :)

Good thing I have two pairs of those nice speakers!

Would indeed be nice to see the TA-F55 in that wood enclosure.

I remember that getting to the lamp in the TA-E86B seemed really easy compared to this TA-E88B, but I could be confusing stuff.

How are those N86's btw ? Did you ever get the malfunctioning one fixed ?

As you have two pairs it is only appropriate that you send along a pair to me for use with my TA-E86B/N86B pair. Should be the perfect match. :thmbsp: Or, with the TA-E86B/TA-N7B pair. :thmbsp::thmbsp:

Hehe, actually one of my systems is being used by a good friend at the moment, but hey, if you lived closer, you could certainly try them!

Those things are actually pretty damn rare around here, took me a few years to find those. There is a similar pair of speakers with smaller cabinets that came with the MHC-EX10 minisystem, and also more upmarket speakers SA-S1 (with on/off buttons etc, sturdier all-wooden compartments) that came with the Scala S1 systems (http://www.audio-heritage.jp/SONY-ESPRIT/speaker/sa-s1.html). Seems like they all share the same innards, because from my SM I can tell they are biamped and have seperate R-core transformers.

They are active speakers however, with builtin amplification (they need a socket to plug them into as well), so I don't think you can use them fed from a poweramp. Works great from any pre though, or from variable outputs on cdplayers etc. Gotta try them sometime with my ta-e88b, never done so. Could be interesting...

Which speakers are those?

Just ordered the Panasonic FC caps to recap the PS boards in both the STR-6120 and 6200F I posted the nudies of earlier. I'll post a couple of pic's as I go along on the recap. The 6120 will be pretty straight-forward. The 6200F less so due to the tightness of the wiring harness making access to the backside of the PS board a hassle.

The 6200 PS board is not that bad to access. I found that after removing the 2 screws holding the board in place and pulling the tabs out of the locating slots, it could be flipped up towards the tabs and propped vertically. A bit difficult getting the point of the iron and desoldering braid in amongst some of the P2P wiring, but the job can be accomplished in about an hour. I only had to reattach one wire that flexed loose.

Nice looking unit, good photos, nice advet writeup showing some thought and research and of course showing the stereo light working hence more than likely the mpx board is working will draw out the bidders who have hestitated b/c of the reputation of the mpx board. I tried to get him to agree to ship to Canada but no go.

You beat me to it Axel :) No better online resource than TVK for Sony gear (not to mention other brands...).

Plus here on AK there are so many nice comments, thoughts, reviews, and pictures of Sony gear you will not find anywhere else on the web!

As promised, here is a pic of the STR-6120 power supply board 1/2 way through the recap. Check out the size of modern caps on the left compared to the orginal Elna caps on the right. The new ones are all Panasonic FCs.

I don't need to measure them. I can see by looking at them that the old caps are larger. :D

Besides........I don't have a capcitance bridge/meter. For $11 and 2-hours work, I'm really not interested. Would take about the same amount of work to measure them. Simply easier to change out. Am going to do the coupling caps and phono-stage while I'm at it.

Would be interesting to see if they are still in spec. As you have 1 channel done before you start the other have you thought about doing a listen to evaluate the sonic difference?
