:scratch2: Hmm, I start to also think of baby Son, it started to be very monotonous, working and working and nothing to do more in hifi now seriously.

My last optimisation occured accidentally. While I connected the cables to xa7, I moved it a bit, then when I was relocating it, I saw noticable sound change. Then I continued to adjust the feet and location carefully listening to the sound, and....:banana::D:banana::banana:

SONY XA7ES OWNERS!!! This iron bulk is much much more sensitive to location than my turntable. I have discovered that when I put 5650 on top of xa7, and when its location is changed it played better, but this was not this much strong up to now. The reviews also tell this seriously but I never tested this, using sink etc. I lately also discovered that my kenwood tt with bluepoint no.2 also loves the corners and outer borders of my big black wooden table. I tested this for xa7. I have always told an anbelievable sound by 5650 that made listener shut up and simply let shocked when they heard this much resolution. FINALLY I REACHED TO THIS. It is unbelievable resolution by xa7 equaling to vinyl, even beating on some, that 5650 is able to pass this but no other amplifer. I tested the 5650 itself too, yes it showed this as it showed 2 years ago being less impresive with optimised ears now. BUT currently the sound I get from system is much much more than this. There is now Day and Night difference between 5650pre or tae88 and my buffered passive usage. Maybe this is why I get serious difference from xa7 now by location and feet adjustment, shows the difference much more. Tae88 owners, If you are able to find a ladder type 100k attenuator with vishay dale resistors, use it with buffered recout of tae88. buffer prevents missing drive. The resulting resolution, dynamics, clarity, timing, air, bass quality, everything is much better than tae88 line stage. tae88 lien stage sounds closed, suppressed, limited, distorsive, lacking details seriously and unmusical. If tae900 is noticably better and exclusive or taer1 or cello is a bit more of it, then the day and night difference of this usage more probably beats them all easily. This pot is 50$ ! I am not using tae88 line stage anymore. I dont need a line stage that is able to drive everything with 10 stage, it must drive only my amp, also i dont need output level, balance, muting. Recout buffer is fantastic and does its job. The gone is tiny bit bass weight and tiny bit energy impression on a couple of high end overprocessed today's jazz cdroms, but bass is now resonating. Energy loss is due to my very long interconnects grup in serial. The coming is on the other hand out of this world. If not! and you already have the sony players, please suspect speakers.... :thmbsp: this is the best sound I have ever heard. I am happy with my system, finally.. I marked the locations of even furnitures to floor, I am touching to nothing.

I use to not think much of Sony stuff. They made the Walkman, TVs, cheap transistor radios. Then I visited TheVintageKnob not long after it came online. I was looking to replace my turntable and noticed the writeup about the PS-X600 (with its link to the HiFi classic review) and decided to take the plunge. As often happens, there was one for sale on eBay, so I bid and won. A wonderful turntable (liked it so much I got another as a backup unit soon after).

Then I read about VFets and decided to watch for an affordable one. Got a nonworking TA-5650 for a pittance (was hoping it had bad diodes and the VFets were alright). Took it to my tech guy and he found it had 4 dead and 4 good VFets. Moved two to the bad side and now it powers my home office system (I don't push it) and sounds great. Recently picked up a TA-4650. Hope to refurbish the 5650 to original shape (minus the killer diodes).

After having the X600 in my system for about a year, I noticed a X75 on eBay. Looked to be in excellent condition, so I bid and got it for a great price. Was virtually mint and had a mint cartridge worth more than I paid for it. Now is the turntable in my main system.

Dissatisfied with my DVD/CD player (good picture, bad CD sound), I did a bit of research online and learned about the DVP-S7000. The original Sony high end DVD player (was a benchmark unit at the time), they were going for about a tenth the original price ($1000). Wow, is all I can say. Best picture I've seen and a great sounding CD player too. Currently sits in my main system doing dual purpose. Liked it so much I bought another as a parts unit.

Recently grabbed a TA-2000F preamp on a late night buyitnow for a good price. Looking to add a TA-3200F for a complete package. Hope to use it to power my sunroom system.

And last night I did a buyitnow on a 508esd CD player that seemed underpriced.

Also somewhere along the line I got TA-1150 integrated amp.

Needless to say I think better about classic Sony equipment than I used too. Oh yeah, also have a Trintron TV I got more than a decade ago that's still going strong.

And to top it off the total cost on this buying spree is about $1000 (give or take a $100 or so). Remember to tell your Sony bashing friends how right they are. Keeps the gear priced so we Sony afficionados can afford it.

Nice going dude! That's the spirit, hehe :D

Here is a pic of my freshly re-lamped TA-F55, and fixed ST-J75, based by a CDP-X555ES :D

So that's what the inside looks like. I never opened mine. If yours needs work send it to Warren Bendler. He has a parts unit. He did mine and after some time getting it to burn in, I'm very happy with it.

OK, this is 30 minutes later after a good Deoxit treatment and moving everything around to get the Deoxit worked in. IT LIVES!!! Gotta love that nice red "STEREO" light on the tuner. :thmbsp: Too bad I'm not a receiver person.

What a beautiful vintage piece...both inside and outside.

But like you, I am not a receiver person either, however would like to own one of those all the same!

I just unpacked my Sony ST-5000F. It is working but needs some cleaning :)

ST-5000F.jpg

I posted a quick picture so that you see it has an other variant of power switch than this one.

A great tuner! The variant on the switch knob that you mention consists of someone changing out the original phenolic knob for the metal knob from one of the bit later receivers (see the STR-6120 a few posts up from this one) or another ST-5000F. Personally, I prefer the metal knobs.

I don't think it is changed. Also one of the (apparently of the time of the ST-5000F) pictures at TVK shows a model with metal knob.

As my latest STR-6200F arrived this afternoon I thought I would post it and the STR-6120 side-by-side so one can compare the differences. Other than the reorientation of the tuning cap and black chassis, the most obvious is the 6200f's 6000uf/80V vs. 1000uf/100V caps on the power supplies. The 6200F 'appears' to have somewhat more in the way of heatsink with the external fins, as well. All of this makes the 6200F about 6 pounds heavier, IIRC.

Here is the top side of both, with the 6200F to right in both pic's.

Hello all. for those of you with a 3200F power amp and a 4650/5650/8650 integrated i'd be interested to hear your impressions of using the pre section of the integrated with the 3200F. i have just finished a few hours of comparing some sony pres, and my 4650 pre and the 3200F have come out easily on top, most notably over my TA-E7B, both through line stage and phono! a really impressive level of micro-detail coupled with excellent dynamics and transient attack, and a most gratifying musicality, by which i mean the ability to to pick up those wonderful nuances, ebbs and flows that the musician's emotions engender, that give the lilt, expressiveness and communication between musicians that i love. This is my best combination in my system yet for all those traits. :tresbon:. of course i dream of TA-N7B's and TA-E88B's.........:boring::boring:

looks like the tuner in the 6200 is pretty close to the 6120. Can not see the mpx board of the 6200 as it is mounted on its edge. The preamp and amp boards are different. The layout and wiring in the 6200 seem a might less neat, a bit less dressed and in harness.

Thanks for the shots. I;ve been wanting to see side by sides.
