Sorry Kristoff the friend I told you about is doing the rebuild and he is not local to me. Should get it back by the weekend. Cant wait to hear the difference the rebuild is going to make, sounded wonderful before!! I'll let you know as soon as I know.

Fitzy - Were you interested in the new 27,000uf filter caps we ordered for our TA-N7 amps? If so, drop me a PM and I'll see if I can add you to the order.

I'm still rocking my Sony STR-6800SD and loving every note it reproduces :thmbsp:

still need to track down a cap for the bass knob... and I'm diving in to give it a tune up and fresh lights this winter

Hey guys,

your new stuff is really looking damn good.

I'm personally also a little reserved against tangential players, but mostly because the late players didn´t have the opportunity to put in a standard cartridge, but the PS-X800 is an exception, because it accepts an ordinary headshell and a wide range of pickups.

The ST-J75 belongs to Sony's best tuners, but some people in the U.S. reported, that it has some strange muting behaviour at strong bass beats. Stoffie, did you see such effects on your (European) version ?

The DIM-30/100 plots of the TA-8650 are indeed interesting and show, that above 40W something very strange happens. But I´m still pretty sure, that at normal listening levels, with normal music material nothing should be noticeable.

No post without pictures. Some units are still missing in the new racks, but please take a look !
Your collection is amazing Mirko. (I see you have a Yamaha C-1 & UC-1 among the Sony's)

I picked up this NIB CDP-707esD recently. I was sceptical, but checked it out when it arrived and it is new and unused. Still in the box for now.

Nice receiver James!

And Mark, you have a nose for picking up gear nobody else finds. NIB ey, damn, why am I never so lucky :D
Mirko has a B-2 or two, and at least one B-1 as far as I know.

Received the $73 ST-S730ES tuner Saturday and have been listening to it and comparing to my other tuners. Am very pleased. Is actually the most sensitive of the bunch, including the refurb'd and aligned T-2. Great sound. For those who don't recognize, is the next-to-top on the right.

p.s. - sure will be glad when the new CD shelf arrives. Not only will I get to get the digital music organized, but will give me a top shelf on which to place all the vinyl paraphernalia.

I've got a rolling file folder rack in my office made from the same stock and rails you have on your rack. Aren't you a bit nervous? Mine is only waist high and when about 3/4 full shows signs of twisting.

The rack is an original Metro, not a cheapo knock-off. As such, it is rated at 350 pounds/shelf. Most of the 'perceived' flex is actually the result of my not having done anything to level the uneven feet on the bottom of the MR67 cabinet. But, never fear. Help is on the way (eventually - when I get around to it). Do they sound better when level? The MR67 is full of those weird little glass bulbs that glow inside, so they may work better when straight up and down. :D

reggaenaut - below the 730 is a Sony ST-J75 and below that a Yamaha T-2. To the left are the McIntosh MR67 and below that is the Sony ST-5000FW. The two on the top shelf are stock. The three on the lower shelf have been recapped, aligned and few other mods by dr*audio, Mark Wilson and Punker X, in that order.:thmbsp: Great work by all of them and highly recommended. Terry DeWick will eventually get the MR67 to go through and I'll have to wait and see about the ST-S730ES. It is sounding very nice, as is.

Guys, fantastic pictures, especially from Mirko's wall:thmbsp:. Currently, I am using kenwood kd990 with sumiko bluepoint no.2 connected to phono1 of tae88, no headamp. I get signal from buffered recout and feed directly to 5650 poweramp, no line stage, even no passive, luckily a perfect listening level. I equalised-fine tuned the sound by 4 serially connected IC's. "Tiny vibrations(as new thing)", continuouty, purity, timing, trebles, clarity, resolution, all better than tae88 itself preserving the rest. Pure resistive passive is wortless to me with excessive drive lack and some anomalities against tae88.

Mirko:
-Do you think this usage is safe for recout buffer of tae88?
-Do you think there is serious unseen signal loss with 150mV 1k output from recout while inp sens of 5650pow amp is 1V 50k? does this mean only power loss? But in fact I am still using 100k ladder pot between recout of tae88 and powerin of 5650, turning to max output for vinyl and steps for cdplayer coming from aux input.

thank you.

I picked this Sony 4950 up a couple years ago pretty cheap. It's got a nice rich sound.
Looks very similar to that sd6800 above.

Nice tuner matel! Bulky compared to the ST-J75 I just received in the mail. (which is not a bad thing btw).

Anyways, I really like the sound from this little tuner. Very silent, open and pleasing to the ear, and it's not even connected to a decent antenna or cable, but one of those T-wire antenna's you can buy.

Picks up stations with amazing ease, where other tuners in my house hiss and crackle like there's no tomorrow. (not exactly reference tuners but still).

Doesn't seem to suffer the bass muting issue, or not that I have noticed anyway.

Fits the styling of the TA-F55 perfectly, the powerknob aside. Visually it's not in great condition, some of the lettering has worn off and it's obviously spent its life in a smoker's household, as it was covered in that nasty brownish yuck. Ah well, nothing a good cleaning couldn't fix.

I'm a happy camper here :)

Is this the famous sleeper ST-J75?
Great looking stack there.
Was always curious what a slightly more modern Sony would sound like.
Or stick a Blue Heaven on my old bugger. Theres alot of depth and richness to work with.

Thanks, just lucky I guess Kristof. :D

Well, I better get lucky too some time ! :D

As for the ST-J75, that's indeed the 'sleeper' matel.

However, last night when I went to bed, even though the unit was switched off, the display was on and a nasty smell in the whole room. Hmm, switched it on and off again, same thing, so pulled the plug, was kinda hot on one side. Will have to check that stuff tonight because it had been working beautifully all night.

It is a multivoltage unit, and I set it to 220V (which is the standard here, even though our net is more towards 230-235V), so maybe 240V would be safer ?
