Show your JBLs off

Another of my JBL projects almost comes to fruition. At least the first half of the pair is done, except for veneer. I loved the pair of 4412's I had, but they were recently sold. This pair is built in S99 cabinets and utilizes the LE14A woofers to essentially replicate the 4412 performance with larger woofers. I call them 4414's.

Without going into a lot of detail, here are some pics of their transformation. A new back was added to overcompensate for the 80 cubic inch subenclosure required for the mid driver. The mids, tweets, and xovers all came from JBL L80's. They will be veneered in South American Rosewood.

Jack: This is off topic, but after looking at your pictures I noticed the Akai Receiver. I used to have one and loved it. I can't remember the model. What do you think of it?

Here's a not so good picture of one of my Century L100's. The other one and the 4408's are out of range...

Here's a slightly better shot of the L100's, putting the spotlight on them where it belongs.

My DIY 4430's.

These are built in L200 cabinets. Drivers are 2235 woofer, 2431 HF driver on JBL horn, and veneered in Rosewood.

Those are nice looking cabs, Jack. Is that a copy of "Do you know the way to San Jose"? :D

Steve, that is a CD copy of two Baja Marimba Band R to R tapes. The first is Heads Up and the second is Do You Know The Way To San Jose?
Good eye.

JBL's I have

I have a pair of L19's, L46's, LE14A's, LE175E's and a little pair of 2600's I think they are. I really like the L19's and LE14A's and the LE175's on Altec 511B horns. I would like to get a pair of L110's and really like to get 240TI's.:music:

Bossradio...I've seen better pictures of L100's. So what! That office/studio you have there is awesome! It would be ideal for my uses. What is that big console with the handset? And how about the blue glowing panel in the lower left? What is it?

Really nice setup.

Rick

That's a lot of Black Walnut

Hey Folks - new here at AK, but the Lansing Heritage folks will probably recognize me & my 'stuff'.

Current JBL loot:

One pair 4333As, living room music.

One pair L110s, control room monitors.

Two pair L100s, studio playback monitors and...uh...haven't decided yet.

Three pair L46s, 5.1 in living room with a spare.

One pair TR225s, studio vocal monitors.

...total purchase price for all listed above = roughly $225.00. Repairs & upgrades...I'll get back to you on that. I think I might have finally hit $1,000.00 total.

There's also a bunch of loose components, an Altec cabinet I use for bass guitar, plus pairs of LX300s, LX600s and 62Ts on permanent loan at my parent's house. Oh, yeah, and at least as many Cantons as JBLs.

Pics show a quick comparo setup I did early this year (I moved to our new house in January, my wife didn't move 'til February...) and what I call the "Pile of Potential".

Schwueet!!! Welcome to Ak Fred.
Just a single pair of 4333's would put me in JBL heaven:drool::angel:
Though, I'm pretty darn happy with the JBL's that I've been able to get my grubby mits on so far.

Hiya Everybody ... guess I'm overdue in this thread ... Do JBL Amps count for extra credit?

Upstairs, its a pair of L200s I upgraded to 3 ways with 2235 woofers and 2405 tweeters. That system has a vintage Yamaha receiver with a CD player and an Apple Airport express, so anything I play on my (Mac) computer via Airtunes (typically 320kbps) can be streamed to them. I built quick and dirty homemade grills and covered them with JBL Monitor blue cloth (from Zilch).

Downstairs I have the biamped monitors, running on a JBL active crossover and a pair of JBL power amps (idea courtesy of Zilch) when I want to listen to music (stereo).
The active crossover is fded from the preamp out of an HK receiver, and sources include FM, HDCD (changer), AppleTV (to access music via iTunes) and a Denon Turntable.
I can also use it to feed the front channels and do surround for movies and TV - so when we want to watch, switching sources puts it in Surround mode, activating the Center channel speaker, a pair of L20Ts doing rear surround duty in the back of the room, and I fire up an old HK Citation 22 to run a (JBL) subwoofer over in the corner.

Hey, everyone wants to collect something - JBL gear is a lot more fun to me than collecting Hummels.

Heather

4301B Studio Monitors

I have a pair of 4301B Studio Monitors - photo attached.

PS! The grilles need to be changed - any ideas for a source for that blue grille cloth? Thanks!

I'm sure everyone is sick of seeing these, but it's what I have and I like them. Recently I tried out the Winsome Mouse and the ADS L810 seemed more alive and "electrified" than the L5's, but the L5's seem more at home when using the tubes at reasonable listening levels.
