Shure V15 Cartridges In A Nutshell

V15 type l has the same body shape as the M44 and M55 series, these all have flat bottom bodies that are parallel to the record surface.
The V15 type 1 can use any stylus in the M44/M55 family.
Native stylus is the VN2E

V15 type ll has the same body shape as the M91 and M75 series. These have flat bottom bodies but are angled away (front to rear) from the record surface to allow clearance between the cartridge body and the record.
The V15 type 2 can use any M75 series stylus but not the M91.
Native stylus is the VN15E...VN7

type l & ll styli are not interchangeable

V15 type lll body angles up like the type 2 but the bottom corners are beveled to allow additional clearance. The type 3 introduced a smaller stylus shank size making it impossible for styli from lesser models to fit.
Native stylus is the VN35E...VN35HE...VN35MR

V15 type lV has a body and stylus shank size that is identical to the type 3 but differs due to the addition of the stabilizing brush.
Type 4 body can use type 3 stylus but not the other way around.
Native stylus is the VN45HE...VN45MR

V15 type V same body and stylus shank as type 3 & 4. Type 5 can use styli from type 3 & 4 but not the other way around.
Native stylus is the VN5HE...VN5MR

V15 type Vx has the same body shape as type 3, 4 & 5 but has a larger stylus shank so styli are not interchangeable with the above V15 bodies.
Styli from the current M97xE cartridge will fit the V15Vx body.
Native stylus is the VN5x...

V15 type RS...similar to type Vx
Native stylus is the VNSE3HE

V15 type V-MR is a V15 Type V body with a micro-ridge stylus. I didn't list every stylus that was available for every cartridge, but it's fairly easy to figure out using the root stylus number I provided.

edit.....I've updated my original post to include some of the styli that were offered with the V15 cartridges

Also,the native stylus for the V15-RS is the VNSE3HE- hyperelliptical diamond mounted on a beryllium cantilever. Exact replacement is near impossible to find but you can also use the N11HE Hyperelliptical or N111E elliptical.

The "improved" version included a stylus that had improved tracking in the bass-mid frequencies over the previous version. This is according to Shure literature of the time period.

The improved had the laminated cores also. Did the regular type II have laminated cores?

EDIT: I had read somewhere else here that the improved had laminated cores, but that may not be the case.

The Shure literature I have states that the older V15 type ll can be upgraded to the "improved" version by simply using the new "improved" stylus. I'm guessing that the improvement was only in the stylus. Not sure when laminated cores were introduced.

Laninated core came with type III, IV, and V (3, 4, & 5).

EDIT: I am correcting my post, mine does not have the laminated core, after getting my macro out, it looks just like my m91ed. I was wrong.
