Signet stylus replacement

Hmm. $275 for a TK5E. Let me guess... is it being sold by a seller whose username starts with "wit"? His prices are almost always way high. Offer less if you can.

I have a TK7E and it's a very good cartridge. The TK5E should be nice too, but I haven't personally used one.

From an earlier post the consensus of AK'er thought that I have a Signet TK3E, and I have not taken it off to confirm, but I am thinking of a Holiday gift for myself. Replacing the stylus. I had purchased the turntable with the Cartridge and have no idea the time on the stylus, so a replacement can only be and improvement (?)
But would my money be better spent looking for a replacement cart?
Searching, I found the likely replacement stylus are the TKN1 TKN6 or TKN22
at adcon.com (http://www.adelcom.net/SignetStylus1.htm) the TKN22 is going for $184
and at lp gear its $99

The question is, could I get a better Cartridge for the same money? Is the TKN22 the best replacement stylus? In my previous post someone stated that the TK7E is the bigger better brother of the TK3E and the difference is in the stylus.
Are there other part numbers/replacement styles that my searches have not turned up?

I got the stylus and I bought an NOS TK7s stylus I love the combo. I have a Shure 97XE with a SAS and the signet is way better, to me anyway.

Hey Larry the tk22 was an NOS stylus but I’ve move up the the TK9 cartridge since and I have to say that I really love it
I still use the tk7 once in a while but now I have a tk stylus #3 with a shabita diamond cut more reviling I think.

I have a 79 L-82 4 speed automatic that is a bit modified, don’t drive it that much anymore, it’s really too hot even with AC, lol

You can use the Audio Technica stylus that fit in a Signet TK7, not sure which ones I’m sure someone will chime in.

Yes the L82 is a good engine, the cette is out tonight with my son...

An update on my Signet TK7SU with the worn stylus. I sent it to Steve Leung at VAS Audio and he reported back to me that the stylus was fine but that the suspension alignment was not. He fixed that and I mounted it in my Dual CS5000 today. Tracking at 1g it sings beautifully. Sounds much better than the Signet TK7LCa that it replaced. Or the Ortofon 2M Bronze I use in that table for that matter. Quite pleased with it.

I have a TK7E body and use the ATN20SS from Group E. One of my best carts/stylus combos! I was fortunate to purchase the stylus before prices doubled.

The ATN15XE at $90 over at LPGear sports the same tip specs as the TKN22.

The ATN20SS does not fit onto the TK7e!
Nor an ATN14/15
Of course one can "cut it to fit"

If your ATN20SS fits you must have the Signet TK7ea and not the Signet TK7e.

The ATN13/14/15/20 all fit on the later Signet ea Series not not on the early e Series!

Sorry, but I think you're wrog there.

For one thing, I'd expect AT15/20 family needles to fit on Signet TK1E to TK7SU family bodies - whereas the ATN13, ATN14 et cetera (e.g. ATN13d, ATN13E, ATN14E et cetera would most likely be a tiny bit too narrow on the inside at the rear end.

And in my view the round plug of all the older needles is definitely too wide to fit into the rectangular hole of the "wider AT120 family" (my nomenclature) bodies, to which the TK1Ea to TK7LCa bodies also belong.

Just recently I got a NOS Signet TK7E from USA.
I have a NOS Audio Technica AT20Sla with orig. Stylus and an Audio Technica AT20 with a noname stylus and bought myself a NOS AT14 stylus for it which fits perfectly.

Photos attached show the orig. AT20Sla with the ATN20Sla stylus perfectly fitting.
Next 2 photos show the Signet TK7E with the ATN14 Stylus: This one doesn't fit onto the TK7E
Next 2 photos show the Signet TK7E with the ATN20Sla Stylus: This one doesn't either fit
Next 3 photos show the Signet TK7E with orig. Signet TKN2 Stylus: Perfect fit
Next photo shows the Audio Technica AT20Sla and the AT13Ea: The ATN14 Stylus fits the AT13Ea body perfectly

I'm just showing the ATN14 stylus on the 13Ea body because the AT14/15 bodies have less output than the AT13Ea and sometimes one needs this higher output voltage.

But I have read that the ATN14 and ATN20Sla stylus should fit the Signet TKEa bodies! These came later.
I don't have a Signet Ea version, only the early E.

Are there any cross reference charts for AT cartridges and styli? The shure list is invaluable, seems odd nobody has put together one for AT. It would require far more historical knowledge than I hold but sure seems to be a need.

I was wrong with the Signet ea Series: They have a different design and it is the VM510/520/530, and VM740/750/760 Series which will fit.

Yes, of course, as there are many that will fit. All those "original ATN styli" that in the cross-reference-chart list
have the recommendation of a VMN 29/30/40/50/60 stylus.

Hmmm, strange... Shall mean: That the ATN14 wouldn't properly fit onto a Signet TK1E to TK7SU family was just what I expected - but I'm really surprised, that the ATN20 wouln't fit.

If it's not too much work for you, could I ask you for a side-by-side side view pic as well as a side-by-side bottom view pic of your AT20SLa and TK7E bodies, both pics without needle - and also a side-by-side top side (or respectively inside) view pic of your ATN20 and TKN2?

The TK3Ea body should take pretty much any "wider AT120 family" needle - except the Signet MR 5.0 family needles, 'cause the plastic holders of these have a bit too high side walls.
